I have a Detroit 12.7 without the piston cooling nozzles. What is involved in adding them? The engine is in the truck and running. So can it be done by removing the oil pan?

if your block doesn't have coolers , your pistons are cooled thru the rods, same difference. I don't think that adding nozzles to a block is simply a matter of reaching up, loosening a set screw and screwing them in.

OK thanks. Can someone put up a photo of what they look like? Or explain them in more detail? I have a tune from Rebel 127 that makes 525 wheel horses. At what power level would they be needed? I know I don't need them now, but if I do an in frame should they be added?

I don't know anything except most 12.7s don't have the nozzles or sprayers?? When I took off my pan to look for them, Rebel 127 told me what to look for. I didn't see them, but they might have been there anyway. Maybe only the 500 factory horse 12.7s came with them. I would like to add them if possible.

From my research only ddec4 blocks cast later into 1998 had provisions for cooler nozzles. Lower hp engines had the holes plugged where they would be go. Mines a early 98 ddec4 606TK400357 and it doesn't have them or holes for them. A lot of hot ddec3 engines running fine for a long time without them.
