Hello everyone,
I'm new to the trucking industry and running into some issues I didnt expect to be so difficult to get sorted out. I dropped my apartment and everything to come out on the road. OTR is where I am and where I want to be. Currently I have no home and honestly I'd like to keep it that way. No sense in paying rent anywhere I'm not going to be.
This is where I'm at.
I need to get my CDL switched over to a new state as well as establish a base for tax purposes.
I'm targeting states with no state income tax of course to save that bit of money.
Ive looked into a couple of options for establishing a physical address without actually living anywhere but I'm not sure they'll fit the bill.
USPS offers a street address in place of a po box but I'm not sure they will work for the purpose of proof of residency for the drivers license or tax purposes. I'm sure i'm not the only guy out there that lives on the road. I was hoping someone might have some experience dealing with this issue and/or some advice to help me figure it out. Thanks in advance drivers,
Hammer Down.
P.S. I dont really have anyone anywhere that would let me use their address, maybe in my home state of Pennsylvania but then I'd be stuck paying piles of state and local taxes.

since 9/11 the laws on all that stuff have become restrictive
there are programs that the DMV and Banks use to figure out that an address isn't yours or just a PO Box
Until i actually moved into my place in Green Bay and utilities were in my name
they wouldnt let me open a checkbook or change my license
I had a signed lease agreement but the DMV still showed someone else there
until utilities were in my name

You ought to have lots of money saved up if you literally live on the road , why not buy a lot somewhere in a small town and put a mailbox up maybe even put a cheap camper there for when you just want to get away

I probably will do that actually but ive just started out. Still on my training wages. That'll be down the road a year or two for sure but ive only got 90 days to get this license switched over, give or take.Dominick253 Thanks this.

Best thing to probably do is beg a relative for use of their address. If you end up having to deal with taxes it will only be a short while till you can figure out a permanent situation.
Being homeless and employed is almost a crime now days.Aamcotrans, bottomdumpin, crb and 3 others Thank this. -

Update:
Just found an old girlfriend who'll let me use her address in FLA, says she'll write me a letter stating that I live there as well. Hopefully that along with a bank statement will be enough to satisfy dmv requirementsCoffey, rachi and Dominick253 Thank this. -
Here's your solution:
Escapees RV Club can give you a legal address in Texas or Florida. Both these states have no personal income tax.
One driver used an old clunker pickup truck with a junk camper shell on the back to register with the club. You can park it anywhere you want, but the legal address stays the same. One driver said he joined Escapees RV Club with no vehicle and it worked for a legal address. This club is good for CDL address and has mail forwarding services.Lennythedriver, Jubal3, gentleroger and 7 others Thank this. -
Thats just the thing i was looking for, most excellant. Thank You

Former girl friends may be ok, but it's better to have control of your personal mail yourself.Aamcotrans, gentleroger, TequilaSunrise and 4 others Thank this.
