Why is everyone afraid of making fuel lines?

Why is everyone afraid of making fuel lines?
A complete hydraulic place did everything short of throwing me out the door the second they heard i needed fuel line, its literallly the same machinesand fittings, the only difference is fuel rated hose, and most high temp hydraulic lines ARE fuel rated.

I tried napa, carquest, 2 hydraulic places

The only place i found that would even tackle it was a john deere dealership that had em made in 15 minutes, but then this time around, i nearly got the run-around about not not making fuel lines until i told them the line they made last year for my truck was doing just fine... (upon getting the hose i looked up use, and it explicitly stated it was diesel rated

Is there seriously a GOOD reason for this, or just another example of forcing people to buy steeply overpriced badly designed oem parts?

Most likely it's insurance related , several atv shops I use will make throttle cables and clutch cables all day long but if I ask for a brake cable they laugh me out of the shop

Those hoses are not DOT rated and hydraulic line is not fuel line.

But then you'd have to buy the expensive hydraulic crimper and dies. For a single use, it's not cost effective.

    Reusable fittings .
    It's not hard.

Actually I like the new plastic fuel line on the newer trucks. Lasts forever and easy to use.
Just route it good so no rubbing and your set.

Our local hydraulic hose place has no problem with fuel lines, but they will not make power steering lines!

Yup, I've had them made at a hose shop without a problem. Rated for diesel. Way, way cheaper than going to a truck dealer.
May be an insurance issue. Lookup the type of hose you want to use and just ask for that, don't mention fuel if you are sure of the type of hose you need.

When I needed to have a hose made, I'd walk in to the Parker shop, pick out the fittings I needed from their bins, walk to the counter with them, and tell them what length hose I needed, and asked what type of hose I could choose from. They'd show me the hose specs from the catalog, and I'd pick one based on my needs. Never a question from them about the application.

'Cause i don't know what i'm doing. How much pressure do the hoses/lines need to be rated at?

Also can a line for gas also be used for diesel and vice-versa?
