They are having problems with them permently blacking out. RM is moving slow to resolve the problem. If you read the reviews at Amazon you'll see all the complaints.

Hello all, I am new to the forum, I got in trucking industry recently and was given the GPS by my Mentor who taught me the deals in trucking. the GPS He gave me is Rand McNally 720 and its about 2 year old he says. the question is I wanted to reset it to factory so I can start new with it with me. since it is free to me so I do not want to keep his preferences or logs so please help ? not sure if this is right thread, if it is not, please direct me where to post this. Thank you.

I've given up on all Rand McNally GPS products. It seems that I can never get them to last until I get a real map update. They say lifetime maps, but the best I've done with their GPS is about 15 months before they crap out. And in that time, no map updates have come out. Google maps works great for getting you where you are going, but you must have common sense and read the signs. Especially if the say no trucks, low clearance, or weight restricted. This simple rule worked well before the GPS and still works today.
The Rand McNally Commercial Maps have always worked great, don't require a GPS antenna, or batteries.
