When you explain the parts/items during the pre trip test do you have to use EXACT wording like not cracked, loose or missing any nuts/bolts and securely fastened?

Like for example talking about hoses in the engine bay like a radiator hose can i say... radiator hose...no bulges, no leaks, no cuts and properly secured at both ends with hose clamps.

Or do you have to speak like a robot with the same wording exactly?

    Grijon Thanks this.

I had a guy i was training fail due to improper language during pre trip. Exactly what the book says, the diferance between, checking for proper ajustment, and making sure they are ajusted to spec, with no mre than 3/4 of a inch of play exccc.... was one example he gave..... better to sound like a book...

Ask the instructor what he expects before you ever begin.

Just go over your pretrip outloud, more than twice, do it in the same order, in mn you can use a paper checklist. (They actualy encourge it) use one. And call the test station in advance and ask, cant hurt

(Passenger side) Engine hoses are properly mounted and secured with clamps and fittings that are not loose, missing, broken, or visibly damaged. The hoses themselves have no abrasions, are not bulging, cracked, cut, chaffing or frayed... They are not rubbing, loose, leaking, or excessively worn. The are satisfactory.

(Driver side) I am going to take a moment to check the engine hoses I could not see from the passenger side of the engine. I am going to check these hoses the same way I checked on the passenger side? "They are satisfactory. Would you like me to elaborate?"

Anytime hoses were attached specifically... Like brake hoses, I would ask again... "These hoses are satisfactory... Would you like me to elaborate?"

follow the wording for dmv test. but in reality your trucking employer will discourage you from conducting a full pretrip as you are required to know for the dmv test. see a full pretripp where you actually look at all vital items and checkall brake slack adjusters would take a least 30 minutes when done right. BUT you should conduct a full pretrip and dvir as if your life and wallet depends on it which it does. if your employer discourages you from conducting a full pretrip look for another employer

It is so much easier to say the items check in a specific order... Your school should give you something or you can write something yourself.

I memorized what items needed to be included in the pretrip first. Then, I asked myself a series of questions...

    Is the ___________ properly mounted?
    What is the overall condition?
Are all nuts and bolts present?
    Is it operating properly?
Are there specialized connections that need mentioning?
    Are there any auxiliary parts?

The alternator is properly mounted and secured. It is not bent, broken, or cracked. There are no loose or missing nuts or bolts. It operates properly and is not damaged. There are no loose electrical connections. There are no bent, burnt, or broken electrical connections. This is a belt drive engine component. The belt is not cut, cracked, frayed or excessively worn. It is properly mounted which can be checked by measuring the deflection when pushing at the center of the belt. The give should be between 1/2" and 3/4". (Touch belt to demonstrate give.) This belt is satisfactory.

Any other belts will be checked the same way you checked the alternator belt noted and the. Ask... "Would you like me to elaborate?"

Practice constantly! I recorded myself saying it over and over again... Then, I double checked recording against the script.
