I asked that very question and was told they "wanted it tarped because they PAID for it to be tarped".
That answer didn't make me feel any better about it .
    :)

LOL picked up a 48480 coil from Mittol in Burns Harbor Indiana that went to Steel warehouse of Tennessee the other day, load info said tarp load, bills said no tarp needed.....I was annoyed but I get paid to tarp, so I tarped it. Grudgingly

Ok now as you can see from the above. You haul anything the customer wants to ship via open deck.
@TripleSix , @MJ1657 ,@passingthru69 ,@Hurst , @catalinaflyer , @truckdad as well as many more in our neck of the woods. Have many years in this area of the industry .

While you are in a seat right now, talk, read, take pictures of open deck loads.
Get a feel from who is in it now. An opinion is an opinion. We can sugar coat it and blow smoke up your butt. Or sour your taste so you don't want to go into it. Be informed, as much as you can. Get 12 get a hundred different points of view. Then search the flatbed sections. Learn and ask questions from open deck people, you can learn alot, someday something you read or talked to. Could save you from injury.
    Good luck and be informed.

I think I'm the weird one who doesn't like flatbedding. But, the miles and pay is there so flatbedding is what I do. Makes you feel g [d about your job when somebody else thinks what you're hauling is cool. Or the occasional nice tarp job complement haha. I'm 110 pounds and the tarps weigh as much as I do

From the way it sounds OP you will like it. It's one of those things you only like if you want to like it. I've done oil tanker/acid, then flatbed, then hot shot, then flatbed...then ship containers...then flatbed. You see where I'm going with this??? Some days you will cuss yourself and swear you're done with it....but then you'll wake up rested and watch some 300 pound guy wobble out of a dry van with his cotton shorts on and say....it's really not that bad. Best of luck and see you around
