@SkipShooter148 I had a similar job like that which paid miles+stops. One guy regularly made $25-$30 per hour while the rest of us typically made less than $17/hr due to the lack of stops and downtime on the other runs. I even had a day where I made under $12/hr. It is difficult to accept a situation where you can work 4 hours longer than someone else, yet make $100 less. So I left, and went to a real LTL company that pays by the hour.

I haven't heard anything bad about Dorhn, and they partner with Pitt-Ohio, which is a good LTL company in my area. I'd go for it. Also, Dayton Freight has terminals in Des Moines, Burlington, and Cedar Rapids if any of those are nearby. Good luck, man!

Look into ABF, YRC and Old Dominion. Don't waste your time with anything that isn't hourly in the LTL business.

thank you for your Insight opinion on my thread. just checked in to the website and seeing your posting. I was accepted 2 Dorn transfer corporate office Rock Island Illinois for a interview this morning at 10 o'clock a.m. central standard time. I had the interview and yes Pitt Ohio partnered with the company. my main concern in my interview was that would I be doing any unloading or touching the freight do to the company I am with now I have to at times unload trailers with two wheel hand cart appliances refrigerators and washer dryers. the company I am working with now is a complete rip-off NM transfer Neenah Wisconsin LTL carrier again rip off. the company promised me such good information when I had my interview with NM transfer. getting paid miles plus stops isn't the way to go working for an LTL carrier must get paid by the hour.some things that the company pays besides miles plus stops is when unloading a trailer by hand you get paid by counterweight which comes out to $1.63 / / counterweight. during my interview with dohrn the company starts out all drivers $20.25 an hour they do very little little LTL most of the time you are doing truckload hitting doc 55 to 60 hours per week 10 to 11 hour days dohrn linehaul pays $0.44 a mileI told the lady during my interview that I would be interested in a position with dohrn so I'm awaiting approval to see if I get hired

////////..... yes I agree with your opinion working in the LTL industry has to be paid by the hour and I have came to the conclusion that getting paid by the hour is the way to go. as far as YRC / roadway comma Old Dominion comma abs would be an OK position but the way the union and Teamsters are cutting back on driver pension is not so good.

Hourly without a doubt. You have to set your value and stick to it.

In 87 I worked mileage @.30 a mile plus drops and took home over $1000 a week. That was 2400 miles plus $18 a stop. The stops were all within 20 miles of each other in two cities and none took more than an hour..

Nowadays, I don't even pick up a set of keys for less than a grand for 40, mileage and load time. Why work 60s or 70s for that money.

Had the interview with dohrn transfer went well. The interviewer was real and didn't bull #### me. She told me alot of things that sound better than what I'm doing now. $20.25HR 10-12HR days M-F work is available on Saturday running their line haul at a pay of .44mile the company don't want drivers working over 60HR a week. Blue cross Blue Shield health insurance with available two pay package first basic one is weekly at a deductible of $16.00 a week and second package at $50.00 a week. 401K over time after three years of service. Very little no touch freight and very little ltl. After one year of employment you get $150 extra a month for a safety bonus.

**************** going to take drug test in the morning 3-18-16 CST. I think Dorhn will be better for me than West Side Transport out of Cedar Rapids, IA

How long is your daily commute to get their?

Remember they said 10-12 hours but they expect 14hours of productivity.

Oh yeah.... Your loads not ready.

Congrats and good luck, you will have to keep us posted on how it goes. I have often wondered about Dohrn. They have a terminal in my hometown and are always hiring, and they seem to pay pretty well. But I was always turned off by the condition of their equipment. Even their newer trucks are usually pretty beat up.
