"Dependability" is subject to many variables...maintenance schedules, driver, etc...good truck operated by a careless driver and run through lazy shops is going to be less dependable than an average truck operated by a professional and worked on by a top notch shop.

All I've driven are Macks for the last 16 yrs, always thought of them as a boring truck. Now, I love my Mack, I look at Pete's, KW, Volvo, but I still love my Mack. Quiet, comfortable. The one in my avatar is my last truck, current truck looks them same but with a stainless bumper. Reliability and dependability depends on how it's taken care of and the dealer that's being used. We do as much repairs in-house as possible, regular PM's and such. Major stuff is sent out, that said, our local dealer is slower than molasses, probably 60/40 on whether or not it's fixed correctly.

Our shop is the same way. Most work is done in the shop unless it's a warranty job. The older trucks will get engine teardowns in the shop. One of our mechanics, Caesar, pretty much rebuilt the entire exhaust system (new DPF, new EGR cooler, new EGR valve, etc) on my old truck in our shop.

The guy who owns the company that prompted this question has 31 trucks both Volvo and Mack and says they are virtually the same truck, just different paint job. I asked him about cost effectiveness and he said there was no difference...

Macks keep their resale value better than a Volvo.

I've personally not seen many run-down Pinnacles on the road. Granted, I don't see many of them compared to Volvo VNL's. And the older Volvos I see these days (the VNL 670/780's) are always so beat up it's a #### shame. People seem to keep those older VNL 660's in much better condition... oddly.

All I know is that Volvo's are really comfortable..

I have not driven a Mack since the 1980's
My last Volvo 780 was one heck of a roomy truck...They do ride very well for sure.
Hands down better than a Cascadia or ProStar as far as quality and ride.
Recently have been in a brand new T680.....I was not impressed with the ride but a solid built truck.
The factory seat was terrible in the KW also... -
So macks seem pretty solid to me. Makes me wonder why you don't see more out on the road.

I was all set to buy a Mack..but went with a Volvo.
The reason..more room and laid out better..plus the deal was ALOT better.
I like the gauge cluster and interior better in the Mack..but that's about it.
Also found Volvo financial to have better options at the time I was buying.
For some reason Mack doesn't like to ''deal''..I was told this by the salesman at the dealership that sold both.Grijon and FloridaDriver Thank this.
