A HM load is a HM load. You may not be required to have placards, but you still have, at least, some HM on board. If something goes wrong, you need to be able to do the things you need to do.

Isn't the "X" used in place of "RQ" under the proper column?

I've seen different bill of lading layouts. I think what you describe is the best way.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is in a combined load hazmat has to listed first and if you have multiple bills keep the hazmat bills on top.

Don't forget the required Haz Mat response book that is required in the truck of any vehicle transporting any quanitity of HM material.

And, be sure that all hazardous materials listed in the shipping papers are either tabbed, highlighted in a contrasting color, or both.

Yep.. make sure your paperwork is in order, everything checks out fine.

Make sure the first UN # you see, is opened in the emergency guide book open and accessible (i put it in near me in the driver pocket). Also, if there is mulitple UN#'s on the hazmat declartion or BILL OF LADING (alot of shippers are different with their formats).. make sure you reference the first UN # and make sure that paper is within arms reach as the first bill on top.

I know whenever I do hazmat.. I have to send it and our safety guy reviews it before we are able to go. Generally within minutes of it being sent.. and there has been times where he tells me "NOPE.... make sure they revise this, revise that.. all that kind of stuff". I do containers so in order to ingate this container to the railyard... everything needs to be in good order.
