They are towing my truck today, thus far, I have lost over $7,000 in revenue, $500 in expenses to get home, and then what ever downtime I incur.
They have a temp fix they claim will make them safe to drive, but they said that back on November 23rd when the problem was first recognized, how am I to trust that!?

Exactly. This one does involve drilling and pinning the shaft though....

Here's a pic of the new steering shaft Volvo installed on my truck yesterday. Like I said, I'm lucky. I found out about the recall within minutes after the bulletin was released to the Volvo dealership network on Friday.
I called the Volvo hotline immediately, opened the case, arranged for the tow right away. My truck was the first one towed into the dealership closest to where I live and where I bought the truck.
I don't think I received special treatment as someone alluded to earlier. I just happened to of been in the right place at the right time. As if there's ever a right time for something like this to happen.
Unfortunately, this kind of stuff happens in business and real life.Attached Files:
KB3MMX Thanks this. -

Or they saw how much you wanted to be reimbursed for down time and said get the guy the hell out of here haha

Actually I was at home in the comfort of my own home and wife for the 5 days

I tried to get a sub truck, but had no luck. -
The Gen 1 Volvo VNL's came with a one piece Steering Shaft, so why the need to go to a two piece on some of the later model ones, then have issues with them and go back to a one piece design?
Some Companies need to follow Murphy's Law, If it is working fine, don't mess with it. -
^^^^^^^^^^ Amen !!

I believed what you said, and can even confirm that...the dealer I talked to said they were doing the same thing.
I was just confused because you didn't elaborate on the permanent fix, or the circumstances surrounding it, but alluded to suggest that your fix was available to all, when in fact it is not. I'm glad you didn't suffer any major losses, but for the rest of us, at least me, it will be insurrmountable, and I intend to fight to become as whole as I can.
Yes, these things happen in business. However, as a business, you right your wrong, and not just by fixing what went wrong, but also the consequences that resulted from the businesses screw ups.
For example, had I lost steering, lost control of the vehicle, crashed and injured or even worse, killed somebody, do you think the victim or their family would not only sue me for limitless damages, but seek damages from the manufacturer, right down to the company that mined the steel!
Same thing. And while I'm thankful nothing tragic has yet come of it, it doesn't mitigate my damages and interupt my livelihood, of what could've been, and make whole my confidence to remain safe when this company knew of this issue back in November 2015, but failed to act then, but rather wait 4 months to fully recall what should have been done then.
I realize hindsight is 20/20, but when you are dealing with something this major, and of this magnitude, to the point they are requiring immediate removal from the road, you do not take chances, for the sake of the motoring public or the customers who spent $170,000 on their product. You came off as the poster child for Volvo, but I tell you, they do not deserve a star in their crown. This os extremely dangerous, very serious, and they should pay!KB3MMX Thanks this. -
They need to recall the dam side cover plate gasket where the oil cooler is. They know they prone to fall. And the list goes on and on

Hey, Jay. I shared my own personal experience. Nothing more, nothing less.
I'm amazed that before Volvo had a solution in place, people came onto my posted thread and started threatening class action lawsuits, demands for specific damages spelled out monetarily, etc.
That's not how it works in real life, unfortunately. There are processes and protocols that must be followed first.
If you don't receive a satisfactory response, one always has the option of legal and public due process.
I hope it all works out for you.
