Last time I was in NYC seen several Martin Transport day cabs running around. I suspect with your location lots of companies would be interested in you. Lots of drivers do not want to go anywhere near that city so they have local drivers take the loads in and out. Make some calls to several companies that run the northeast like schneider. Good luck

I've seen this @Chinatown person a couple of times in responses. Who is this and are they a good resource for people starting out in the trucking industry?Chinatown Thanks this.

He is a mildly autistic savant of all things trucking companies.... (come on china, thats funny)
but in all seriousness he is a guy here who keeps up on the requirements locations and reported quality of companies

Those local, home every day, jobs are out there, but are hit or miss on decent pay. Plenty of that work in NYC/Long Island. Check Craigslist and Indeed websites.
Best way to get those jobs is to apply in person with cdl in hand. Those companies may have "experience required", but they will hire new cdl grads if the applicant looks good on paper and in person.TPC Thanks this. -
Great stuff thanks. Two that come to mind are OD and ABF here on LI. These would be ideal because I could transfer to a different city if and when the time comes to sell my house and get off LI right or no?

That's right; move to Las Vegas and be my neighbor. I'm an immigrant from Tennessee.
Many wonderful family orientated neighborhoods in Las Vegas/Henderson, Nevada and no personal income taxes.CrappieJunkie Thanks this. -
Now we know whats wrong with you china, Tennessee?
j/k
I could imagine theres quite a few food service gigs in vegas...Chinatown Thanks this. -
Clare Rose in E. Yaphank will get you home everyday. Are you in good shape? You'll earn every penny. (You didn't say where on LI. It's a pretty big place.)

Lots of good trucking jobs in Las Vegas. Watkins-Shepard has a terminal there too.
Faraday Future just started construction on a new automobile manufacturing plant there. Beautiful car and you can Google to see it. Initial investment in the plant is $1 billion dollars. New subdivisions being built to accomodate the employees at the plant. Seven Hills and Summerlin are good areas for families with excellent schools. I'm in Seven Hills gated community.
Excellent weather year round. -
Not to hijack the thread or anything but I would like to move to Vegas but from what I hear, them monorail trains that operate on the Strip don't have any operators needed for them to operate! There is no guy or girl in the cab! Heh...I was shocked to learn this. Therefore, my possible trucking career here in SE MA is wide open. After 14 years driving buses, I'm ready to move on

Best areas are from Chinatown and South.
Chinatown is on West side of interstate from the strip. Draw a line from East to West where Chinatown is and move South of that line. Henderson/Las Vegas are pretty much the same city.
I wanted to live in Chinatown, but nothing available at the time with 3 bedrooms/2 baths. Found one in Seven Hills with 3 bedrooms/4 baths. It's in a gated community within a gated community, thus 2 monthly HOA fees, but worth it.
