How much a week do you spend on food?

Just some thought here but if by a small chance you end up toes up by 45 it was all for nothing so to speak. Enjoying life as you live it, that's my plan. A guy never knows

Didn't say anything about lifestyle, I was talking food. Gotta feed the machine. If the average American was like me, the rest of the world would be in trouble.


House, car, bikes, truck...everything's paid for. Only time I buy a new phone is when the old phone breaks. My current phone is 5 years old. Bought the GPS I use in the truck back in 2004. Why buy a new one when the old one works so well? Bought the Galaxy99 in 1992, bought the Galaxy 98VHP in 2011. If I want it, I buy it. If I don't, there's no selling it to me.

So you don't think a soup kitchen app would be a good idea? Well, apparently there's one for couch surfing. I guess I wouldn't have believed that people do this in 2016. I learned something new. I'm always game for adventure, but not when I am tired. Might find Buffalo Bob like Joe Dirt did.

More power to her. I'd rather get a motel.

 

I make and eat foods from the truck a lot. One thing to consider is the size of your fridge. It is tough to cook most meals on your own with the smaller type mini bar type fridge. I had to have a cabinet taken out to accommodate a larger fridge that allows me to store enough food.

 

That is great. I agree with Dave Ramsey on a lot of things and am debt free myself but you can go overboard with that stuff as well. I am less than 40 and I have three paid for houses. I got to this point by working hard and avoiding debt not by eating ramen noodles everyday. I am not suggesting you need to go to a fancy restaurant everyday but what you eat relates to your health and if you are only spending $5-$10 a day on food I doubt you are getting good nutrition.

 

I don't eat fast food and out at restaurants every day at home, why would I do it on the road. Once in a while, sure. I eat at home, with food from a grocery store 90% of the time. BTW, you can eat very healthy on $10.00 per day. To those of you that prefer to eat out daily, more power to ya'. I don't think it is necessary to rag on someone that prefers not to and save their hard earned cash. To each his own.

 

When I stated that the average American dies once they get out of debt I wasn't wishing an early death on anyone. Just stating facts I googled "average mortgage debt by age" I found that the average mortgage debt for seniors is $79, 000, retirement age is 65, and the average male lives to 71. I'm not wishing an early death on anyone I'm just adding up the sum of these parts for you. Even though that's what I think your doing to me in a round about way. Yes sir that's what a real man does when he sees another trying hard than he, he gets overzealous and wishes them dead. Yep that's sign of a real man right there.

 

Lot of truth to that. My dad worked hard and saved his whole life. Retired when he was 66 with a real nice nest egg. Had plenty of money saved up to do whatever he wished in his golden years. He got cancer and passed away three years later at 69. He was my best friend and I miss him so much and I think he had a good life but it really bugs me that he worked and saved so hard and didn't really get to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

That being said you don't want to go to the other extreme and live like there is no tomorrow. What scares me more than anything is being to old to work and not having enough money saved up to last me until I die.

 

You did talk about lifestyle not eating truckstop food is just the tip of the iceberg for an entire lifestyle of mine. You're raggin on my lifestyle well guess what I can dish it out too. You know if you're like the average American you won't be able to get by in retirement without your S.S. benefits. Tell you what if that program runs dry and you need me to share the soup kitchen app with you gimmie a shout and I will, ok six. I have no intention of needing SS to retire.

 

Dave Ramsey's book is like the blueprint to my thinking when it comes to finance and I live that plan everyday and I love it. Its much more satisfying than most people think especially once you've been at it for awhile it gets exciting really. But I never suggested that people eat rammen either, just not I'm going to make a daily habit of getting robbed inside the truckstop on food that's all. I do however notice a trend in people that make some good financial decisions, usually they tend to make a lot of good ones. People that don't pay attention to cash to all in one area of their life say like with food for example usually that's not the only area they blow money in.
