By evaluating their package and make it attractive to drivers... It's not all about CPM.

Competition is a good thing. IMHO

Whether it can be done is not important. I don't go to the bank with could be's , or should be's, or maybe's. A driver is looking for money. The company's goal is to lead you on with what you might think is possible.

As we all know driver does more work than drive miles. How that work is hidden in the pay scale is what is important to the smart driver. Most of us can all add up numbers in a mythical utopian job where all we do is drive. Just like we can assume after one load is dropped another is right next to it waiting. That is not the reality of most trucking jobs.

Ok this pains me. As much as I hate Averitt and how they did me I was bringing home over 1k every week. Now I ran the wheels off and didn't take every weekend at home.

Most of those "up to x amount first year" figures are overestimated anyway, or they are failing to tell you that drivers who made that stayed out 3 months at a time. When I was salary of $900 a week, after taxes with 3 dependents I brought home around $770 a week.

I read a couple posts below, a driver saying he was 8 axle flatbed and made $1200 in just 4 loads. You definitely won't do that in dry van. Heavy haul is where the money is. Even better if its local. I say that because you can run your butt off locally if you work for a good company paying you percentage of the load and be home every night and off every weekend. I made $85,000.00 in 2014 and spent all of 2 nights in a motel that entire year and worked one Saturday. Wasn't nothing for me to gross $1500 a week on the regular. Some weeks a little less, some weeks a little more. I don't think that entire year I had a check that was for less than $1200 gross. Some weeks I grossed over $2000. But of course, this is trucking and while there are some companies which pay you fair and square there are lots that will try to nickel and dime you, try not to pay you for things you have done, etc.

Prime pays 43cpm. Swift pays more? Actually we raised our pay scale before swift did.

You're missing some things in your calculations. There will be times when you sit and the carrier says they don't have another load for you. There will be lots of times that a load is sent to you with an extra day or sometimes even two on it. There will be times when you arrive at the receiver the night before for I'll just say a 4pm unload. The receiver doesn't unload early, by the time your ready to go its 6pm and you don't get another load till the next morning. How many miles carriers run he trucks will vary anywhere in between 100, 000-150, 000 miles a year. Doing regular OTR with a van or reefer starter company you can expect to be anywhere in between 110, 000-125, 000 miles a year. Now those are odometer miles and very few carriers pay odometer miles most will pay somewhere in between 90-95% of that. Running 3300 miles a week once in awhile will happen but not consistently in your first year or two with a mega. To be honest those kind of miles for a new driver with any starter company is just a wet dream. You'd need some sort of kick butt dedicated route that you won the lottery by lucking into.

    Yank a tank . Requirements : HME , TX helps here's an offer I had last year/

    Hey Mike,

The available locations are Baton Rouge, Louisiana or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Baton Rouge is the closest location that I have to south west. The position is driving a Tanker OTR hauling Fluorine Products. The work schedule is Thursday thru Sunday, off Monday thru Wednesday. They offer paid relocation upfront and a $7,000 sign on bonus. You'll make 70 to 75k in the 1st year, then 85 to 95k from there on out.

The must haves are at least 6 months experience driving a tanker and 3 years OTR semi driving experience (or 5 years semi driving experience, if not OTR).

I am in the process of screening several candidates for both Philly and Baton Rouge and I will not have an opportunity to circle back to you again, so please follow-up with me if you may be interested

Wow! That's a good offer there. I agree get your experience keep a good record and either go specialized, go to a premier carrier like walmart, or get $50k or so together and go O/O.

    Jonkie Thanks this.

Seems like Walmart is hiring all over , I hear the ads on the radio . I used to deliver fuel to Walmart in Hurricane Utah, their doubles drivers make 125 k a year

Edit / 50 k seems kind of high . I bought my first in 2004 for 35k from jack b Kelley whom I drove for , not a dime to my name and ran it for five years , grossing 200 k a year. My payments were 1 k a month for a 2001 9200I
