Meat, go see the response I gave re: my son's current experience with Covenant in the other Covenant thread.
Frankly, if you can't get into one of the top-notch companies, then get in where you can....get some experience with them....then move onto something better. Not every company will take every person. Nor should anyone expect them to.

Looks adequate to me ... but you wouldn't catch me dead working for a faith-based tc ... Save it for Sunday. -
No pun intended, but AMEN!
US Xpress also hires felons, sometimes. One of my students was a felon when I drove for them.InMyDreams Thanks this. -
there are countless posts where truckers wonder why they get a "bum rap" from the public. now we know why. it's the companies that hire felons and morons that help to continue propagating this stereotype.
in summary: "eff-word" -
I dont believe that having a felony in the past is the reason for the bum rap that the trucking industry has. Its because of the tossing piss bottles on the side of the road, tailgating whatever happens to be in front of you, driving tired, driving illegal, speeding thru school-zones, oh and cant forget about those filthy drivers that would'nt walk outside in the rain because it seems too much like taking a shower.Last edited: Jul 29, 2008

I guess your the perfect little angels that never messed up in life huhh?
I couldnt agree more. The student, who was also my freind befor getting into his truck driving career is a great person. He got into one of those situations of "wrong place at the wrong time". I rather see him on the road than half of the, to quote Austin Powers, "Fat ########" that cant shower, wash their hands after taking a dump on their way to the buffet line, take care of their truck, or what have you.
Truckers got the bad rap from allowing the comunity we are to get to the lowest cess pool it is currently. I may drive a truck professionally, but I dont classify myself as a trucker just because of that. -
You may not believe that to be the case, but you're not the "general public". You and I both know that stereotypes (felons, tweakers, etc.) along with the things you mentioned are what tarnishes the trucker's image.
I guess I'm sensitive to this now as I am breaking the news to friends/family that I am moving into this field and having to break down the stereotypes/assumptions one-at-a-time all the time. I got your backs though ...

im not understanding this-- everything most of you guys have to say about covanent is bad, yet you have drove for them. and then for one of you to say I just cant drive for a godly company sounds like a crock of #### . if you have never drove for them stop acting like you know all--heck maybe you do But they gave me the chance to get my foot in the door and im running with it. And from the people i know that work there, you will get the miles as a team at least 6500 a week and they are happy. So i tend to think if they were that bad they would be no-more. but I am a newbie but i got a brain to think with!! and by the looks of this web site- there is something wrong with every dang company-- some people just cant be happy!!notarps4me said: ↑I work for maverick, but you are in FL and doubt if they would hire you. We get home on weekends and they only hire in areas where they can get us home. I am not a team driver, but know that most that do it to make good money is a husband/wife team. That way the pay is not split. Covenant is not known for decent miles or hometime. You would be better off going solo in my opinion to make more money. I don't know what most teams are running for a lot of outfits, but as a solo I like 3000 miles a week. Our avg is 2400-2800 for most drivers.Click to expand...aabward Thanks this.

meat999 said: ↑Yes, you are correct. That 14c is what you make for all miles the truck drives while you are out with the trainer. My son's weekly paychecks while out with the trainer ranged from a low of $450 one week when the truck was in the shop for 3 days to over $1000 on their best week. Once you are out driving teams after you complete 45 days of training, you start at 17cpm then go to 18 cpm after 3 months. At 6 months, you can continue teaming at 20cpm for all miles the truck drives or about double that if you decide to go solo.notarps4me said: ↑from what i hear -- the 14 cents is what the truck makes. and as a tean you are running 6 to 7000 miles a week that comes out to a nice peice of changeClick to expand...
My son is 2 months into his 6-mo teaming stint and his average miles is about 6000 per week. He started in April of this year and he has been to 40 of the continental 48 states so far. So they are running him pretty well.Click to expand...
