    Went 936 miles from East Texas to West side of Chicago to pick up empty trailer...got paid $1000.00 USD (bobtail)...While it was not the closest trailer they had, they needed to get some trailers out of this customers yard...Dispatcher still working. Just goes to show it always depends on what is needed done and who is available to get it done!!

    WNDRWTR always exceptions to things but thats obviously far from the norm. Plus you got paid so....Still waiting to hear examples of abuse lol

    Well I congratulate you getting in with a company that truly cares for their drivers. You have certainly found the utopia of carriers. Unfortunately, out here in the real world, there is no place for being naive. Do companies do forced dispatch? You bet they do. If the the driver is late for his appointment and has is forced to wait an extra couple of days to make his delivery. Who do you think is penalized for that? Yep, the driver all day long; (no compensation for layover) Do dispatchers get fired? Sometimes, but not often enough.
    Dispatchers. I had a dispatcher send me a load that was meant for a team. He told me since I was on paper to make it happen. I went a head and did the load illegal, without whining about it.
    I've worked for many companies that operate that way, so I've witnessed first hand their underhanded business tactics for throwing their drivers under the bus. I guess that makes me a whiny, lazy b!tch

    Here is good example of abuse.
    I was dispatched to pick up a load in Indianapolis yesterday at 1330.
    I was in the middle of delivering another load in Louisville, Ky. that same morning. The consignee kept me detained for delivery longer than expected. That delay prevented me from arriving on time to my 1330 appointment in Indianapolis. I notified the broker ahead of time that I would be late for my arrival. The broker, (which I shall leave unnamed) instructed me to proceed to Indianapolis, and be prepared to pay a fine for showing up late.
    I show up late, EFS check in hand, ready to pay any fine levied for arriving late.
    I was told...your not going to believe this Sh!!t. The broker had given the load to another company at 1100 hours, right after I informed them I would be arriving late.
    Now here is where my company not only threw me under the bus, but got in and drove over me a couple of times.
    I call my boss to explain what had happened. Boss explains to me that any pay for mileage and or layover will have to come from from the broker.
    Keep in mind, I drove from Louisville to Indianapolis. Now I'm stuck here for the weekend without a load.
    So..am I just "whining"? Or do I have a legitimate complaint?

    Thank Reaper_Trucking for giving well needed clarification to AKfisher. It's obvious he is Noob and hasn't had to deal with shady companies.
    A good example of what you just clarified I've seen first hand from Knight transportation. I started my career with them. I guess you got to start somewhere.;)

    haha hardly a new Driver and my point is its not as bad as guys make it. Trucking is no different than any business. Has its ups and downs.

    Swift locked me in an impound lot over the weekend after I broke down. I had a case of water and a kit kat bar in the truck, and that was awful.
    Between being transferred back and forth between the weekend dispatchers who refused to get me a hotel room until I got a repower I sat in that #### yard for about 38 hours. Then when they finally got me a taxi to a hotel, actually they didn't even do that, I had to ask the repair guy if he'd drive me to the nearest hotel on Monday, I called to get them to pay for the hotel and they gave me a comcheck number which I used, what I didn't know was they'd actually just given me a payday advance so I could pay for the room, never got reimbursed for 5 days in that #### hotel. Or breakdown pay for the 7 days total I was down so I paid for all of this out of pocket.
    Finally I called and said #### this and #### you I'm going home call me when you have a new truck for me and I'll come to the terminal and get it.
    A 24 hour greyhound ride later I'm home and after being home for 2 days I get a phone call, they've got a truck for me. Walk in to the terminal and there's a bus ticket there for me to take a greyhound BACK to the truck that caused all this crap.
    Finally Id had enough and told them to stick that bus ticket up their ##### and all of a sudden they had a truck "arrive" at the yard I could have.

    Never went into details about that situation on here for 2 reasons:
    1.) I was brand new and didn't realize how badly I was being ####ed while it was happening, that's my own ignorance and a valuable lesson learned.
    2.) My dispatcher was on vacation this whole time so everyone I talked to on the phone just wanted to transfer me because I wasn't their problem. Honestly if my dispatcher hadn't been gone I think the story would've gone a lot different, however, it was still a crap situation.

    In 3 months or so with the company this was my only bad experience with them. I had a great trainer, running solo was great, treated well by my dispatcher. I think I just happened to hit the perfect storm and took a swift lightning bolt right up the rear.

    Running 900 miles to get an M/T trailer happened at JBS Carriers, I think it was getting new trailers, a few Member on this website could verify it.
