My wife is a school teacher. We get all of our benefits, medical, dental, and so on through her job. Is this a bargaining chip with trucking companies in terms of increasing starting pay?

Doesn't hurt to try . Pay models are usually 70/30 split between wages and benefits. I'd make the case , myself

Nope, it has never been for me. I get an extra $75 a week because my wife has all the bennies so that's the only advantage I have.

Just don't enroll in anything. That will be your savings.

One would think maybe it would be a plus for you. But if we're talking about any major carrier, they have their set pay rates, and must generally stick to it. Plus they MUST make their benefits available to all for the duration of employment and their thinking would be what would keep you from later signing up if you divorced or whatever else might happen.

Ya know its real, real, real sad a truck driver must rely on their spouse for "reasonable" benefits.

And I Get it, Why you folks choose to go that direction. Musta heard it 1000 times over the years.

As a father of 3 myself, I could NEVER lose the control of raising my family requesting that my wife be the 1 to provide the benefits for our family.. If she chose to work,Thats Fine, But We made a lifetime plan to where I provide at any and all costs..She does what a woman was taught to do as a little girl. Cook, Clean and raise our kids.

When you allow your spouse to provide insurance benefits in that manner, You lose a lot of control of what I believe A man should have in his family.

Again, Its Not your faults either, Its the pathetic trucking industry that has No Morals,no representation and no positive outlook for drivers coming aboard.

I provide benefits to my employees. For one, the benefits are more than his wages. Something's gotta give pretty soon......

Hi Accidental...what benefits are you offering your guys/gals?

Why are benefits so costly to you?
