Way back in 1994, I stopped at a truckstop called the Highway 96. It was located on I-40 at exit 182 and the town was Fairview.
It was a Mom and Pop place with a dirt lot and a restuarant that looked like it was straight out of the 1940's. They had the round tables and the chairs with the wire backs. When I walked in, I looked down to see if there was sawdust on the floor.
The food was great and the owner was a former driver who gave out ballcaps to all the drivers. Just curious to see if it was still there as there's not too many Mom and Pop's left.

The only thing my book shows at that location is a Flying J. I have a 2007 Truck stop directory.

That used to be one of my regular stops. Very nice people with good groceries. I don't get over that way anymore so I don't know if it is still there or not.

I know the place you speak of. If you were headed west as you came down the ramp it was directly across wasn't it. Actually across and to the right. As you may have guessed it ain't there now. I want to say it closed about six years ago? They sank some 4x4s into the ground to block the lot off but somebody(Wasn't me I swear) knocked them over to reopen the parking. There is still the crusty looking gas station there out front.Native Dancer Thanks this.

Too bad it's gone. There aren't many of the old ones around anymore and they beat the crap out of Pilots, Flying J, etc.

I love the MOM and Pop truckstops

There is still a place called the 96 truck stop in Winchester, Kentucky.
