Greetings fellow drivers. Let me start by saying that I'm a 2x Iraq war vet (USMC) and a 10yr vet behind the wheel of a semi. I've been doing the L/P thing for about 4yrs now and getting pretty tired of the cpm and only run what's given to me type loads. I think I'm ready to take the next step in owning my truck out right and pick my own loads. My credit score is as follows: EQFX 697 and TRANSUNION 715. I also have approximately $15,000 loc. and $4,126.83 in savings and $750.00 a mo from VA disability. are my options? Advice from the greats that done it would be appreciated. Be safe out there to all, and God bless.
AM I READY YET?

I'm not trying to be a downer but the market is down right now rates aren't the greatest and paying a note is something I still dread every month. It may be better to hold off a little while longer and study the market more so before jumping in and buying a truck and running on your own.
Are you planning on leasing on or getting your own authority??? -
First off, Thank you for your service, and God bless you.. Semper Fi
I also got tired of being a company driver, and wanted my own truck. In which I'm doing just that,, I'm still gonna run for the same company but as an O/O.. big piece of the pie then cpm.. plus i can make my truck the way i want it to be,, I wish you lot of luck with your journey.. -
It sounds like you don't even have enough cash for a down payment, let alone a maintenance fund or money to live on until revenue starts to come in.

Semper fi marine! I myself recently bought a truck and started an entirely new company. I'm from IL and any cost you have to pay to the state is stupid expensive. I bought a 12 y/o truck with 750k miles and a 16 y/o trailer. They may not be the prettiest but they're solid and get the job done. All in all I have about 40k into it authority, insurance and all. Cost me about 11k down and a good small town banker. Also a good credit card with no or very low interest to cover your operating until you get revenue flowing! So you can make it work id wait at least 6 months just to get that cushion built up! Good luck leatherneck OORAH!
alien4fish and AshtonMarie81 Thank this. -
I was thinking of leasing on with landstar. I'm already hired from them and Mercer but just don't have a truck as of yet. I wanted to finance one but I have a cousin who's willing to take a thousand bucks a month for 15 mo til paid off on his 05 kw t200. Just trying to weigh my options.

I would go from LP to LO definately...keep it simple, run a line for your local LTL, take home 2200 or so a week...be normal joe..If your truck pops on night one, you can quickly be in a company seat and still making money..
Also, with your credentials, you could haul for DOD and ATF and stuff, they only take x military/police folk...big payin gigs
Oh, thanks for your service man///we need ya and love ya...Not very happy about 4k not comin home though...someone should pay
