The company I work for told me they were selling the truck I currently drive. They are assigning me a 2014 Volvo, and that's all I know right now. I have driven two Volvos for two days the last 12 months, and I hate them. Am I being objective about the Volvo? Is there anyone who actually likes this truck?
The truck I drive now is the Cascadia in my avatar. After 6 months of write ups, this Cascadia is a nice riding and driving truck. Not only do I like the Cascadia, I am emotionally attached to it. I'm thinking about bailing out over this management decision.
Does anyone drive a 2014 Volvo and actually like it?

Might try to sell management on the idea of keeping it now that you have written it up and it's been fixed and running good at this point.
But...
I trained in both Volvos (15s) and KWs and have been assigned a '13 Volvo and a '14 Volvo.
It comes down to personal preference for most Drivers. I like and prefer the Volvos but I can understand why others have their preferred trucks that are not aligned with my choice.
"I am emotionally attached to it. I'm thinking about bailing out over this management decision."
While emotions do come into play in things like this, I would advise to just give the Volvos a chance... Drive it for a bit and see how you feel after doing so. Especially if that is the only thing about the company that you don't like.
In general, it's never good to make a purely emotional decision when it comes to issues like changing jobs. Another reason to wait a few weeks and see how things go at that point.
You can always move on...
But sometimes you can't come back.
No need to play that card until you are sure.daf105paccar, Alberta trucker and Chinatown Thank this. -

As a company driver, sometimes it is a little bit tricky to get a good riding and driving truck. Your average driver will tear up more than he will fix. This truck had a half a dozen problems, including coolant leak, sensor and CE light issues, exhaust leaks, a couple bad shocks, leaking air bag on the steer axle, and two out of round steer tires. The truck was being passed around from driver to driver like a hot potato, and nobody wrote anything up. So I chose this truck, because the other truck was even worse.
I patiently worked with the shop and kept writing it up and after a few months, it rides and drives like a champ. No sensor or regen problems at all. Also, this 2010 is a No Def truck, which I really like.
So Friday, they told me it was going to be sold. I could scream.Last edited: Apr 9, 2016

Volvos are a love/hate relationship. I never understood the infatuation over them by big companies. I got thrown into one after driving a new Mack for years, and personally don't like the Volvo, though I can't really pinpoint why. You get used to it though.
I personally find the driver area configuration uncomfortable, and the little, fat steering wheel feels weird. I need a big wheel to match the truck size. It always has little electrical faults, too.
Plus your legs are almost level with the side windows.
On the plus side, it is a quite ride and has only left me stranded once, and it has almost a million miles. The sleeper layout is nice in the ones I have seen(I drive daycab).Getsinyourblood and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -

got lots of miles in both volvo's and freightliners.
Freightliner hates drivers. crappy layout, uncomfortable, stupid ergo's (old actually, they would be great if it was still 1990), crappy engine brakes and no help.
Volvo's are very comfortable, the ergonomics totally make sense. They are quiet and rattle way way way less than a comparable mileage FL. The jakes are night and day. I could pull same weight 2 or 3 gears higher in the volvo and never touch the service brakes. The volvo automatic is really quite good, even decent at backing up.
Mileage pretty similar, power I found to be pretty similar.
Freightliner throws a code and all you get is a MIL (malfunction indicator). you don't know if it's "low on blinker fluid" or stop soon cuz it's gonig to blow up
Volvo throws a code and tells you exactly what is wrong. "left front light out" or "DEF this that and the other thing" so you know if you should continue.
I'd run, RUN to a Volvo if I had the choice vs. a freightlinerLast edited: Apr 9, 2016

I've never cared for Volvos. When I worked for Big G, my first truck there was a Volvo (I had always driven KWs before) and I never did get used to it. I was always uncomfortable. I hate the giant Windows (you will get sunburned on your left side in the summertime) and the beds are small and uncomfortable too. I drove that thing for a year and a half then they gave me a brand new KW T680 and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It actually felt like a real truck. Come to think of it, I think that's why I never cared for the Volvo, it seems like they tried too hard to make it feel like a car in the drivers seat and dash layout.
I then met my wife who was driving for the same company and we drove team for awhile after we got married. She loved the her Volvo so when we teamed up, I turned in my KW (sigh) and moved into her Volvo. Same complaints all over again, but a happy wife makes for a happy life.
We've since left Big G and she's not driving at all anymore. I've got a local job where I switch between a Cascadia daycab (it's no KW but it's alright) and an International box truck (don't get me started). Lots of folks love the Volvos but I never saw the appeal. Those giant Windows, it feels like you're driving down the road in an aquarium and everybody can gawk at you from the knees up. It's not a pleasant feeling.One_tooth_wonder Thanks this.
