I loved my Volvo. It was an 05 with an ISX. The sleeper was smaller than the century, but it road so much better. Had a better turn radius, bigger cargo boxes on the side, better stereo, drove more comfortably and I liked how the dash was set up and I had most of the infor, action that I wanted, right where I could easily see it. I also liked how I couldn't lock myself out of the darn thing. It was a pleasure to drive that truck

Oh yeah, forgot to add that one Volvo I had was an ISX and the other had D13. The Volvo engine seemed like it pulled the hills better and got good mpg but the Cummins was good too. Volvos are also super easy to back in tight spots because the steer axle is almost directly underneath the dash.

I really liked my 2012. Rode so nice. 6.5 mpg. 300 gallon fuel. No issues. It rode so nice compared to a shaker.

drove '09-'16 FL and Volvos, love the volvos and dislike FL. The FL century was ok, but I don't like the cascadias. They ran fine, just hated the charachter/feel of them (or lack thereof). Controls for cruise, jake, digital control/readout, much better on the Volvo too.

The two that I drove, one was a 670 and the other a 780, weren't bad at all. I didn't mind them and if my company said take one from coast to coast I would do it without a care. I don't personally care for the Freightliners. If I had my choice I would drive a Pete 386. You could get into almost anywhere with the Volvo. The Freightliner wasn't far behind it though with it's turning radius.

Where I used to work we had a few Ryder volvo's around the yard as extra's. The few times I've taken one out I liked the cascadia's better. Ride on both was about the same, the volvo feels a tad more "fluffy". I think the new cascadia's ride pretty good with a longer wheel base set up. I'll agree with the post about the d13 feeling a bit more powerful than the isx but it could of been a gearing issue on the isx set up
I-shift and Detroit's dt12 were about the same but I'd probably give the edge to I shift. The dt12 had performance mode disabled so it always short shifted at 1300 or so even on the hills it would only give you like 1500 unless you put in manual modeLast edited: Apr 9, 2016

Do you know if it is a 670 or 780?
The 780 has a much bigger sleeper, tons of storage and so much more floor space than a Cascadia.
The Volvo is a better built truck in my opinion...much more solid feel, way less wind noise and rides like a car.
To me the Cascadia is just not laid out well....The spaces for the TV and microwave suck and are too small to actually put a microwave in and a little 19 inch TV barely fits.
My old 780 I used to drive had a big fridge, room for my 32 inch TV and my 900 watt microwave.
I think the sleeper on the Volvo is much more insulated and I think I slept better in it than the Cascadia.
My only complaint was the seat would not drop low enough....A Legacy low pro seat fixes that problem.Getsinyourblood Thanks this. -
I drive a 2014 volvo. Its a pretty basic model so maybe one with bells and whistles would be better?
But the short answer is nope, I don't like it.
Long answer.
The ergos are weird for me, my knee is always rubbing on the door, the steering wheel feels weird, the stock seat is horrible and lacks any adjustments beyond, forward/back, air up or down and one big lumber support that is a foot above my lower back. Might fit a tall person better I guess?
I don't think it rides that great, everything squeaks and rattles and it is forever in the shop with electrical problems.
But some guys love them so I'd say at least give it a shot before you walk away from a job.
ETA mine is a day cab also so no opinion on sleeper layout and a cng engine so no comment on that either.Getsinyourblood and EZ Money Thank this. -
They're "okay" but I'd stick with a Shaker if I was buying something used. Parts are more expensive and they don't have the dealer network freightliner has.
