Is it illegal for a company to hold you from a doctors appointment, that you reminded the dispatcher 2 weeks in advance?

I don't have a clue if it's legal or not but it surely shows how much they care about the wellbeing of their workforce.

Illegal- No. But it is a sign of a company that doesn't respect it's drivers. This is trucking and things do happen, but if the company is not making every effort to get you home for appts. (especially with 2 weeks prior notice), it's time to start looking for a new employer.

Not illegal but your dispatcher sucks, but then if you drive for Crete they would put you out of service for saying you needed to see a doctor and you'd have to take a bus home to see the doctor, then they'd have you go to a terminal and have you go to Concentra and take a new physical and then if you passed you could take a bus back to your truck,

Last company that didn't get me home when I needed to be got their truck back. I rented a car, went home to do what I had to do, then made 1 phone call and went to work elsewhere.

A company that doesn't respect you isn't worth working for.

As for anything like that being illegal? The only doctor they'd be breaking any laws by NOT getting you to on time is for your DOT physical...if they keep running you even after it has expired, they'll get in trouble because you'd no longer be qualified to drive their truck. Then again, if you're caught, you'll be in trouble too.

    Wow.

They would actually leave the truck sitting all alone for that long?

I haven't been to a doctor other than DOT physicals, except for emergency room visits, in probably 30 years. Doctors are bad. And like Tucker said, it opens a whole giant can of worms. As long as I can crap, pee, see, hear, I know every two years my BP is good, and i'm not a diabetic. I'm fifty, and have absolutely no desire for someone to stick a giant metal hand up my arse. Now I go to the dentist every six months, absolutely. What good is a driver with poor oral hygiene?

Youuuuu betcha they would. And if it sits too long, they clean it out, charge you for having to clean it, store your stuff, then when stuff comes up missing, they swear that the stuff in boxes is all that was in your truck.
