Training frustration!!!!!

I thought you were supposed to quit... now where did i read that?...

 

Wow... Having to ride around with "trainers" for weeks and maybe months on end.. Having to drive the way they want you to drive wearing out the clutch and prolly have to have good posture too... My goodness have times changed for road hands. Man, I knew when that CDL thing came along it was going to be bad.. I've had one now for a long time but I didn't have to go to school for it. Back in the day you filled out an application with mostly BS on it, showed them your chauffeurs license, and someone took you on a road test usually to the next exit and back.. If you didn't scare the stuff out of them then you were hired, they gave you the keys to a truck with some blank BOL's and a couple log books and told you where to load... That was it... No really, that was it. I actually learned how to drive a truck good enough to get hired on a road test in SPRIMO... I came out of the oilfield in OK and decided truck driving was for me.. Looked in the paper and found an ad.. Filled out an app with all my truck driving relatives phone numbers and then climbed in a 77 cab over Freightliner with a 45' flatbed for a road test with one of their drivers who was hanging around.. Been driving rig up trucks a while so starting it and getting it to go was easy. We got out on 44 and went to the next exit. I exited, stuck it in nuetral and braked to a stop. Turned back over the over pass and got back on to go back.. Did the same thing. He never said a word until we got back and I parked it. He looks at me and says "you don't know how to down shift". I said, well, not much call for downshifting a rig up truck. So he says.. Go back out the gate and go around again.. He talks me through a couple downshifts and we get back.. He says.. I know you haven't ever driven one of these and we run west, so I can't pass you but I hear they are hiring in Joplin.. So I went straight to the place with the green trucks in Joplin and passed the road test.. Was in Paris Texas the next day going to work for one of their fleet operators driving a Pete cab over... It had a 13 in it.. never seen one before, darn shifter had a big chrome cap on it with a button.. LOL! Learned all about it on the way to California..

Now you got trainers... For weeks! Someone said months! And to think I was thinking about going back out there! Perhaps I'll stick to the heavy road equipment and the dump trucks for a while longer...

Right on. Keep us updated. I didn't read the whole thread; are you still with the same trainer?

 

Train is boot camp.

It sucks. But learn as much as you can, while you can.

 

Lunchbox try stretching 3x a day. Increased circulation will help, stretching is important. Also take a look at this chart for ideas

 

The fact that you are having to pay for your showers tells me all I need to know about your trainer. He should be paying for your showers with his Rewards card.

I have always paid for my students' showers and always will. This may seem like a minor detail, but it certainly provides a glimpse into your trainer's character.
