Assuming I get offered a position in the CDL learning program I had a couple of questions.

    1) I am 30 min NE of Atlanta, does that mean I will most likely go to the Atlanta training location?

    2) Has anyone trained there and if so can you tell me about the facilities?

    3) Can you bring laptop or notebook?

Thanks for any help, have a great day.

Been three years since I been.
It's more of a what type of fleet you plan to join.
I went van, trained in Appleton WI.
My friend went flat bed, he trained in Gary IN.
All I'm saying, keep your expectations broad.

In the computer, if you want to, bring it.
    My recommendation, pack light.
You won't want much with you if and when your out OTR with a trainer 2-3 weeks.

    Paul328 Thanks this.

Good info above. They do some Orientation out ot Conly but not as much as they used to do. Cost for travel and food is on them. In Appleton they put you up in a nice hotel and feed you two meals a day. Breakfast is free at the hotel.

Were you thinking you may be able to commute from home if you are in the Georgia terminal? Tell your recruiter what you are wanting to do. There was a guy in our class who commuted from home.

Texnmidwest, yes, I live just over an hour from the Conley facility. I was hoping to train there since I can just drive down. I can't commute daily but would go back on weekends.

Orientation is 8 days straight then you leave out with a trainer. Getting home on weekends might be tough. The guys getting their CDL through Roehl from the Tech college get weekends off but orientation guys do not.

OK, I'm good with that. Looking forward to working if they will hire me. I am used to the nomadic lifestyle. People may call BS on this but it is the truth, I grew up as a military brat, 23 schools in 12 years. I am used to being on the move and get antsy when I stay in one place too long.

Willingtoask, Personally I wouldn't have a concern but from what I gather from looking at other posts is they are looking for prescription drug abuse without a prescription, weed, meth any other illegal drug. Also some people will have a legitimate prescription for a drug but it may be against the companies policy to let drivers operate a rig while on that medication. So they want to make sure you aren't on something, for instance, for pain that would cause issues while driving. There's always one guy/gal who ruins it for everyone.
