Glad you like it. I'm kind of tired of it. Not that I don't enjoy it I just feel like I need to be running it and wanted it done and ready to go yesterday. I spend my mornings getting parts that wasn't right or taking care of court crap. I'm in a big custody battle with my ex and trying to get stuff done there also. Just way to much drama right now so I can't spend the time on it I need to be and I try to work late. But on the other side I know that this will be the best engine that truck will have in 18 years and it ran real good before. That gives me a little patience and let's me go home when I feel like I'm pushing it to hard. I've never done an out of frame before or had to build from a bare block. It's a lot easier without a frame and cab to work around but I still have to drop it in and hook up a transmission.

Ya I hear that. I'm really on the fence about pulling my 12.7 Detroit to put a nice cat in but don't have a good mechanic near me that could help me accomplish my goals.
-
I'm not a fan of green engines and if I was in your position I would consider it if I wanted to keep the truck. I put a Pitt power mod on a 12.7 years ago and it at least kept him in radio range of me. Before that I'd been done fueling by the time that truck pulled in. Not sure if it's still available but that could be an option.

My truck has a bigger turbo manifold and tuned ecm. She's a 97 and don't plan to get rid of her for along time. Just wish I had some good help out here in AZ. I'd like to do what you did with a 5ek block and do the stroker acert crank. Make a nice 600-650 hp ground poundin earth moving kitty cat.

Great info I enjoy the thread and since I have a 5ek that will probably be ready for a rebuild gives me some options. Thanks for sharing!

Some flaking I saw on a rocker
and some wear marks similar to the cam on this one
head is torqued down and got exhaust manifold, thermostat housing, and a few electronics put back on. Started on the cam gear lash after I put injectors and rocker arms back on

Ran into a little issue with the adjustable idler gear after I set the lash. That stub it rides on is original on the 5ek and is longer than it should be and allows the gear to move front to back 1/8th an inch. I have one that came off my 6ts that seems to be a little shorter but I haven't compared side by side. I have parts from both engines scattered around at the moment and I'm gonna have to do some digging to find the 5ek gear to see if it's thicker. Might have to pull the front structure back off to replace the stub.
tsavory and prerunner404 Thank this. -
Definitely a different stub
there's the 1/8 difference. I didn't like the idea of reusing that gear. Especially since I had a good stub with a new gear and swapped them out. If you guys do this make sure you know what stub you have with your gears. I never would of thought there would be a difference here.
wore out, prerunner404 and tsavory Thank this. -
Me neither. Then again glad you caught it last night!

hey, @Tmtbob i'll try the pic on the bracket again. I don't know if your bracket is the same. another thing good about this is if you ever have to replace the waterpump all you have to do is take the back of the bracket off instead of the whole thing.
snowman_w900 and Tmtbob Thank this.
