I was pulling my old 8-axle rig loaded heavy ( grossing about 156k) with a big tracked machine on a 2-lane state highway. Speed limit was 55 and I was doing all of it, as folks routinely ran 65+ there. It was a relatively straight section with a few hills and a couple gentle curves.
Just as I'm rounding one of them, some fool running third in a pack coming at me decides that it's a good time to pass. As I see him come out I figured surely he sees me (the machine on my wagon was bright red and almost 12' wide ) and he'll have to slide back in.
Well, he didn't. Jack*** just kept on coming! Then, at the very last possible moment, he decides it'll be a good time to jerk the wheel left and just barely misses plowing head on into me!!
Last I saw as I kept on cruising around the bend he was off in the mud on my side, fishtailing and trying his best to flip the #### car.
Definitely never wore those shorts again. ...grenade668 and tucker Thank this. -

See all you younger guys, we all have them, and these are just the ones we feel like talking about. Learn from them, dont be ashamed or beat yourself up over them.

Close calls too accidents are bad and I have seen many but on purposes upset me more.
I-16 on cruise with a 4 wheeler easing by, no turn signal or brake lights, eases in close in front of me and slowing down. Traffic on the left, full brake, horn, engine brake application, and the car nearly disappeared from sight in front of the hood. Then it eased off to the right on an exit ramp.
I do not know if they are doing that for thrills or to get insurance claims without getting hurt to bad using the parking brake.
street beater I thank your post because it caused me to look on the error of my ways. I was taught to always thank about what I would do to prevent an accident. I have ran the left side tires on the right side of the white line on a two line road to avoid impact and not roll over. Gone into and out of the median on the interstate but failed to just ease over on the paved shoulder to avoid an on purpose. Suicide drivers were not in my training.
I encourage all of you if not taught that way to constantly thank about what you would do, in every possible situation, that would prevent an accident and or save your life. Train your brain because you do not have time to thank about when the time comes.
Then pray you are never in Mudguppy,s spot and have no choice.street beater and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Two lane 55 mph highway in Jersey, fully loaded running light fuel to stay legal. I start down a fairly steep 1/4 mile long hill running 50 and about halfway down the hill a U-Haul pulling a boat decides to pull out of the gas station on the left and stop completely blocking the road. I stood up on the brakes and laid on the horn bringing the truck to a stop only a few feet from T-boning him. As soon as I stopped he started driving again, straightened up in front of me and proceeded to flip me off as if I were the one in the wrong.

Two weeks ago, hwy 20 in Iowa, westbound, 79,200 gross. I'm looking right at a mom and pop truckstop, to see if they have a scale.
Look back, and some ####### has dropped a desk in the middle of my lane. Swerved enough to just clip it with the bumper, but the maneuver puts the tri-axle of the trailer in the soft mud on the side of the road, which pulls the tractor hard right. Let go of the fuel, and just rode it out until things calmed down enough to pull back onto the road. Though tor a second I was going to flip it over for sure. Stopped a few miles later to check for load shift and to kick the mud clods off the ICC bumper. Co-driver never woke up.grenade668 Thanks this. -
Happened couple years ago pulling a cow wagon left for Holten ks no sleep in 24 had a run coming back to loup city left Holten about 9 am or so maybe 10 can't remember clean ride up to 80 got on same as always that was when the 396 was still a left lane get on.
Well as luck would have it dot came on the big road with the lights on so I'm doing my usual 75 as everybody else is doing 80 all of the sudden big road comes to a grinding hault. Sea of brake lights left lane and right lane. 2 4 wheelers cut in front of me from the right lane to avoid rearending another big truck checked my right mirror hoping for the shoulder hut another bull rack come over on my right.
Well got 2 4 wheelers ahead no escape right and a rather steep median...I stood on the brake pedal and knew she wasn't going to stop turned the wheel left and seen about half the trailer in my mirror as I continued down the median until the truck stopped still resting on all 18...I was scared effing ####less.
Everybody hollering on the radio about the dumb c u next Tuesday that slammed on the brakes because of a bear that wanted nothing to do with her in the middle of the interstate. Pulled back onto the big road as traffic started moving pulled off at the Seward rest area and fell out of the truck when I went to check my cattle couldn't keep my legs under me for the life of me.
I was just as much in the wrong as anybody else that day glad it ended the way it did as it could have been much worse. I work local now and seems like every day there are plenty of close calls so it doesn't seem so bad anymoregrenade668, flightwatch and Dye Guardian Thank this.
