i've seen this ad a few times and could never figure out who would run for $2.00/mile. If your "renting" a 9-car and only load 7 that's .285/unit! If you load all 9 spots that's .22/unit....."F" that.

I think Hansen has a lease purchase program as well but I'm not sure how it works. Has to be better than DAS though

Those boys work way too hard. When I was in Albuquerque we had the contract to operate their (DAS) terminal and do the last mile local pickup and deliveries. DAS required us to respond to the terminal within 60 minutes 24/7 to let their drivers in to drop or load, expected us to do a complete and accurate secondary inspection in the dark, plus expected their drivers to do what ever it took to get the load on, including unloading the entire truck to put a unit on only to have to drop it a few hundred miles away at another terminal and do it all again. The only drivers I spoke to that were happy were the independents that were taking broker work, at their rates, when it didn't move within the DAS system.

Junk trucks, drivers run ragged, just not a good experience. They loved us as terminal managers, we even won a performance award both years I was out there, but I felt so sorry for the drivers doing the work, they were promised the world, how easy it would be to do terminal to terminal work, yet they worked harder than I ever have in carhaul.

They have had this lease purchase program for about 5 or 6 years now, used to be a time they had company drivers but not anymore, mostly lease purchase drivers and guys running off the broker board. The really sad part is, I think I made more money on the units DAS picked or dropped after hours since I was paid a flat $36 to go open the gate and sign the inspection report. Our light duty tow drivers used to fight over who got called for the DAS releases, it paid them better than a local tow call without the work, just open the gate and wait an hour for the DAS driver to do his thing, we refused to be responsible for discrepancies in the inspection report after dark, so DAS never charged back anything to us.
