If this is discovered on an employment verification call, would you hire this driver knowing they have on at least one occasion abandoned someone else's property and freight in a far away location? I think I'd rather hire a felon out on parol
Omarrj, sawmill, MachoCyclone and 5 others Thank this. -

That's known as a service failure and it depends on the carrier whther this mark will put a damper on getting hired. If I was to hire and he did that I certainly wouldn't hire him.If a person wants to quit fine happens all the time but you do not quit while under a load, shows what kind of person they really are.MidwestResident, Lepton1 and ‘Olhand Thank this.

have to say that is not what i would want to see on a employee application, I would not hire that person. If one needs to quit finish the load , take the truck to the yard, settle up the difference and go find another job.
RERM and passingthru69 Thank this. -
I did it and I have been hired on with 3 companies since. I did it on a Friday. Found out I had the job on Friday. Only one training class a month and was going to be following Monday. Dispatch wanted to send me to texas out and back. No way could be back by Sunday so I quit on Friday after tgey refused to give me another load and demanded I go to TX.

There might be circumstances that might change my point of view, but how many times have you heard of people getting upset over things, dropping trailers with product, at trucks stops, among other places . or leaving the whole unit someplace, without letting people know where it is .So the company not only have to pay a huge fine, but the insurance , the cost of tracking the equipment. and hope to god the unit is still in one piece.
I am sure most of us would never do it, but i am sure you have heard the horror stories ,
I would prefer my driver to come to me , tell me what on his mind , see if we can work things out, ( companies are nothing without the drivers) If not then i have my equipment safely at the yard and no out of pocket expenses. -
Quitting under load is one of the worst things a driver could do. There are very few "unforgiveable" things a driver can do in this business, but that is one of them. Most reputable companies will not even consider you if something like this shows up on your DAC

if one is to quit, then quit BEFORE accepting the load, or immediately after delivering it.dunchues Thanks this.

Quitting under dispatch is different from abandoned equipment. One can pull into company headquarter while under a load, get into a argument and tell them to stick it, or be told to quit or get fired. That is totally different from abandoning a truck and load 1000 miles from the yard.
Some drivers only get to the home office while loaded, kinda makes it hard to quit any other way, problem is you have no control how they put it on your dac.
Ever try to give someone two weeks notice and they tell you to hit the door?hunted Thanks this.
