Said "national account" would have seen Loves is the closest and called them anyway.....

Also what makes you think a company too cheap to replace a bad tire would not try and charge him for a blown rim and tire no matter they told him to go. All they have to say is 'You were the man on the spot, you should have explained the situation better. No the picture makes Iit look drivable, but you were looking at it. That will be 2k you owe us for the service call....'

Your right, he may not get pulled in. But he might. And he is the one explaining "but they told me on the phone it was ok."

So run it, and check it in 50 or 100 miles, any change at all, shut it down, its activity failing. Thats the only thing close to run with it i would even think about suggesting...

How is this even a question? I wouldn't run another inch on that tire. The company could either replace the tire or come pick up the load. Their choice.

I would drive that straight to the tire shop. not loaded though.
Any company that says run it needs to let the pipe cool off a bit -

I think it is a virgin because the DOT number looks like it was made the third week of 2014 and no other date codes are stamped on it form where it was recapped that I can see.
I think the area on the edge of the tread next to the side wall was damaged rubbing on an uneven surface such as a curb, rail road track, trailer rub rail with the suspension dumped type thing. Lean more toward ground damage due to the spot on the tread.
I think the spot on the tread is in the first major tread grove and could be considered out of service, a tire is only as good as it's worst spot.
I thank the damage in the side of the tread that is circled could be considered separation, also an out of service condition.
I thank if that was my truck I would have a tire put on it there unless they were trying to robe me. Then I would send it on route while I was looking for another tire store, but it is not mine.
Some pointers for new bee's that are not in the book: When you come to the last oasis stop and check your stuff and most other times you stop. It does not take long to do and walk around, tough each hub ( use caution) and tire. A tire that is hotter than the rest indicates a problem, low air, separation, and sometimes they have a burning rubber smell, even with correct air pressure, then they explode.
