See how quiet this site has become since Toona67 moved on (sadly) Wish most parking spots were like this. So I have a question for the old hands here....Several time I have gone to Canada upon returning you must pay the US government $13.05. and you will need to obtain a fax which is another $2.00 + . Some times I need to use the ATM machine to get money for all of this. Now the question is...When using an ATM and you have to pay a terminal fee will TMC reimburse that fee? Now I know the obvious and that is to carry that money on you all the time so you don't have to pay that fee. Also, thinking about it how about when you park at a truck stop that's not approved by TMC and you have to pay to park?

I went to Canada twice while working for TMC and never had to pay for anything? That was all handled by Brittany in the Customs department. I just handed the officials up and back my paperwork with the bar code and my pass card, they asked me a few questions pertinent to the load and I was on my way. If you still have your TMC book I would call the customs specialist line or ask your fleet manager to get it for you so you can get a better handle on the requirement.
Hope things are going well for you buddy, I am still enjoying unemployment. lol
Going to drive fuel oil truck for a local company owned by a family member to help them out for a few weeks while I decide where to go next. It is really nice to be home again in northern MI. -

Hello. Im new to this site and trucking industry as well. I recently graduated from CDL school and have been doing lots of research about trucking companies. For the past 10 plus years I worked in construction but decided to try trucking as construction in my state is not stable any more because of falling oil prices. So, while in CDL school we had several recruiters from trucking companies like TMC, Melton and several dry van companies. After researching dry van option I figured, as a student driver, I'll be making (.26 to .32 cent a mile) and thats less than I was making in construction. The flatbed option looks a bit more promising but Im aware that you have to deal with 90lb tarps. My problem is that after working in construction for many years I have lower back issues ( bulged discs) and I wanted to hear from proffesionals like you: in real world working for TMC how often per week do you have to pick up 90lb tarps and do you have loads that don't require tarping? I also heard that TMC's orientation is military style and they make you carry 90lb tarps on your shoulder for several days while in training. I find your posts really helpful and informative and would really appreciate if you guys can comment on my post. Thank a lot.

Make you carry 90 pound tarps for days heck no. There is a test to make sure you can handle the tarps but not days lol. With your medical condition I would not do flatbed.

Thank you for your reply. So what is the percentage of loads you have to tarp?
-
90%+ of the loads are tarped.
Miz860 is correct, flatbedding may not be a good choice in your case. -
Thank you guys for your replies. I'm gonna have to reconsider a lot of stuff.
