You should see a great lighting show looking at the backside of the storms to the east. The 55k + foot storm tops are going to be amazing to behold after dark if you can get out from under any lingering cloud deck

Ohhhhhh I was hoping something more exciting than lightning lol

I didn't scroll through every page of comments but I didn't see NOAA weather radio mentioned in the original post. Most truck radios have weather band coverage and now that NWS warnings include the sections of interstates that are in the warning area it's great tool to have in your toolbox if you're in unfamiliar areas. I might not know what county I'm in but I can tell if I'm on I-55 between exit 25 and exit 40.

I've been driving 1 1/2 years and I've only seen a few good storms but haven't seen any of the motherships that you see in the plains. I'll probably be shutting down in PHX tonight so I don't know if I can make it to OK by tomorrow if I get a load going that way.

A Wx radio is good to have but ideally for truckers you need one that continuously scans for strongest signal (travel mode)
But the warnings issued by noaa via radio are often meaningless except to those intimately familiar with that particular area. They often refer to tiny towns not even on a map.
With smartphones being so prevalent today, a good app is far better as these will show the warn area graphically on a map. -
I have a uniden bearcat 880 cb that scans the wx channels and sounds an alarm when a watch or warning is issued even when it's in cb mode , and it will wake the dead too .

All chasers keep a battery handheld NOAA radio in the glove box if nothing else, just as a last resort backup in the event you get out if range of cell towers and lose data or the tower is slammed shut to new connections due to a dozen or more chasers up-streaming video when things get hot and heavy. Then they suddenly become worthwhile having.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
And just never forget if you're near a tornado or supercell with rotation, there ARE going to be chasers in the area. Most will drive sensibly but some are high on adrenaline or driven by fear and be on the lookout for anything and everything in terms of erratic driving.
The chasers (you'll usually recognize them) are either trying to intercept or are trying to avoid hail cores or getting run over, and sometimes it can be hard to know which as an outsider observer if you're not familiar with the system in it's current state.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
So basically if I don't have an app or weather radio, you are saying that if I'm suddenly surrounded by the second coming of Mad Maxx I'm probably near a tornado?
-
The chaser community as a whole is not sold on the Tuesday setup like the guidance models are leading the SPC forecasters. Looks like N and central Texas may get some good rainfall tomorrow late day. Hard to say what this thing is going to do tomorrow. As of Monday night if I had to target an area for chase potential, I'd likely be heading towards Salina or Newton and stage there by about noon and watch and see what develops near the triple point.
