No nothing like that. Just had a locked up back and did some research. Having the air ride bump me around did more harm than good.
-
is it uncommon to swap out just the suspension? Or generally does the whole thing get 13'ed and swapped out?
-
National seats are junk. And an ought-six truck will have a flattened out seat cushion. Shop for something else. Can't really swap the passenger in place unless your sweetie rides with you!
-
Did you find all 4 fittings? Factory Petes have a cover around the bottom that needs to be removed to get at them. If it still squeaks, and you like the seat otherwise, you can order parts anywhere that sells National seats. You'll pay a lot more at a Pete dealer. National did make the seat for Peterbilt and the only real difference is the seat covers with the Peterbilt logo on it.
National, just like most others have a wide range of models and options. I wouldn't call them junk, you get what you pay for. If you buy the cheapest seat, you get the cheapest seat. Our Pete's either have the Captain or Admiral models and we get no complaints unless there is something is broken or worn out. If you like the seat other than the noise, fix it for cheaper than a new seat. It's probably a Model 95 suspension, you can buy the whole seat base or most of the parts individually if you only need a few parts. -
You can replace the base easily enough. You can get take offs cheap because guys will put a low rider base under the factory seat. I know i have my b/n original base in the basement and the local pete dealer would sell them cheap. My 2000 is still on the original seat with around 1.2 m miles on it. Ive swapped the bottom cushion from the passenger side to mine and thats it. Its starting to need a new lower cushion but the upholstery is still good. I paid 65$? At the local pete dealer for new foam and a local upholstery guy is going to put the original fabric back on it for me. Thats one of those nationals that people say are no good lol
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
The truck serial number is on the base of the seat where I can read it but the national tag is stuck under the rear cushion facing the back of the cab where I can't get to it. The Iowa 80 is about a 45 minute drive, may just have to drive up and see what they have.
This is a straight truck and we don't drive full time, have it to deliver our services. We put on about 300 miles a week so not a massive cause for concern, but the nice part of the original seat is it matches the passenger 2 man seat...... as for the suspension cover, anything it had originally met the round file long before I got it.
I just got this truck, its got about 280k on it. -
This classic I bought in Dec had a national in it and it was very comfy and quiete but it was getting thread bare so I replaced it with a Sears elite leather , not top of the line but I like it so far .
-
Sears has a factory in the quad cities ( pretty sure they made the equipment/ truck seats there)..... a sears seat would not be somewhat local and I like that.
-
It's a middle of the road seat , was 800 bucks at freightliner in Omaha ..I like it so far but it hasn't been in service long so wel see how it wears .
