When I got into trucking in 2005 I did not have a GPS and relied on the old school methods of atlas and calling for directions for five years. Never had the problem of being on a road I shouldn't be on. Can't say that about the GPS, which one time wanted to route me through a tiny cemetery to get to a shipper. GPS units can be great but can also get you into a lot of trouble with such a behemoth of a vehicle.

And seriously wait until you see how much room you have on that truck before buying anything that can be readily (and cheaply!) bought on the road. When people on here say that you will be sleeping with everything you bring , believe it!.
A soft duffel filled with clothes is not too uncomfortable. A big atlas, not so much. -
the paper one will be fine if you can't swing the laminated one right now. The laminated one has a Large print version at Loves. Much easier to see everything.

If you need larger print, use a magnifying glass. -

Technology is your best friend. I haven't had a truck GPS in three years. Google maps, Nokia maps, street view, satellite view and trucker path, all available on any smart phone is quicker and more efficient than any atlas.TheDudeAbides Thanks this. -

I've always used a paper one, they usually last over a year for me. You need to update an Atlas anyway since they build new roads. I find the paper one to be easier to use while dri.......er ah,.......dribbling. ..
