Truck Driver Killed by his load 4-22-16

Actually the one I posted is for slinging loads from one boat to another and has a 5000 lb WLL.

 

Like I said before, they can be hauled safely with straps. Just takes a lot of work. I always use chains and haul steel every day. 7 - 3/8s on the 40' flat plate that is on my back now. So I am not one of those that throw 5 straps and go, though I see them daily also. The trick is to keep the stuff from moving at all cause it's really hard to stop something when it starts moving. Something like a body in motion tends to stay in motion. Also the way a lot of this are loaded if you don't go back and block between them the chains will come loose also and then you have the same problem. We haul for a company that paints them with a very high end paint, use them to build boat docks on the waterfront for people with yachts. And yacht clubs. They have a cow if you scuff with straps and you can talk till your blue in the face they aren't letting you put chains on them. If you can't do it safely without chains and without scuffing their paint then they will find someone who can.takes a lot of time to make it safe but they pay well for it to be done right.

 

And what exactly is it that you think the DOT should do? Coil endorsements, structural steel endorsements...etc? Yeah lets ADD to the circus!

I'll call it.

Someone will find the old ruling saying they have to be behind the rub rail. They will not see that the rule has since been changed. The arguing about it will go on for several pages. Happens every time.

 

Nope. Not from me at least.

If the rule has been changed, then I stand corrected. I've been retired from trucking for a few years, and from flatbed for several. I'll admit I am probably out of the loop on a lot of things. When I was in flatbed, 'behind-the-rubrail' was the rule.

As to the rest, like really guys? Are you going to use these forums like your own personal CB - where you sit in your cab and make idiotic remarks from anonymity, just to try to get somebody upset? Are you really that far-gone off into a child's mentality? Because like seriously, it's juvenile as all [f-word]. K? Like grow up, already. The rest of us would seriously appreciate it.

 

No, perhaps not. But do you perhaps agree that the DOT could focus less on issues that matter least, to focus on issues that matter more?

 

I apologize for my snide remark. It wasn't directed at you just the site in general.

The straps in or out of the rub rail deal comes up here quite frequently. It ends up to be the same old arguement every time. Kind of like securing coils, headache racks are mandatory, bungee cord vs. rope, etc..........

 

All of the needed regulations are in place. We do not need any more crammed down our throats.
