Threads are merged now. If anyone notices redundancies, that's the reason.

As an employer i read and it is ridiculous.Check the contract what you've signed. With my employees i have noted that i would give two weeks notice if i want to let go a driver for reasons mentioned here like slow freight and so on (the freight will never stop completely, you will still be moving, maybe cheaper but moving). Of course there are reasons that you can fore a driver on the spot, like stealing, cheating or dui.
All other cases i would expect driver to do the same to me - if he found a better paying job, better equipment or just wants to quit - give me two weeks notice, that i could replace you with someone else.
If i'm not doing what we agreed on - paying less, don't give home time or something like that - you can quit on the spot and like one said "bobtail 900 miles back home".
Everything is negotiable and you need to talk to the dispatcher, owner or whoever you have signed the contract with.

I'm a employer also. I can't believe how some drivers treat their employer and vise versa.

If you give me a 2 weeks notice and we are on ok terms otherwise, I'll let you work those to weeks. I also won't fire or layoff somebody away from home without a way to get home, unless you do something really stupid.

I can think of letting somebody go when they gave notice one time. The guy had laid out all week. He finally came rolling in on Thursday and gave his 2 weeks notice. I told him we managed fine all week without him so he might as well just go ahead and go. I can put up with a lot of stuff (and do) but I will not tolerate people not showing up or chronically being late.

Yes, I posted once, and realized it wasn't quite the right thread to post in, and posted it in a more appropriate thread, then realized I couldn't delete the first one, ugh! I apologize :)

Thanks everyone and sorry for the double post. I thought I would drop a update. I want to thank everyone for the advice and experience, it was amazing to be able to send my hubby info, while he was without Internet access. The company did offer to bus him home, but with all he had in the truck, microwave, fridge and on and on, he couldn't get it all on a bus. And he wasn't willing to leave it. My Mother in law lives in the same state, 3.5 hours away and she picked him up. We got a check last Friday, and it was shorted, but, I guess it is what it is. I groom pooches for a living, so I was fine, and he finally got a plane ticket home for $99 and back to work ;)

We have learned a ton from this, and if he ever does OTR again we will remember all the valuable advice. Thank you.

Glad it worked out but ...

Rule number one as a company driver - DO NOT buy crap that you can't put in a couple bags if something happens on the road. This goes for microwaves, fridges and so on. If that truck got into an accident, you may just retrieve your personal belongings like clothes and such and nothing else.

I've been told to report anything pay related to the IRS as tax avoidance. If they don't lay your husband then they aren't paying taxes on that. The IRS will get to the bottom of it and figure it out. If I were a business owner year rather pay $1000 than have tax audits every year.

I have found that a ninja trip a month later with a big pair of side cutters, cutting every trailer airline I could sneak too, always let me sleep better afterwards.

You know, I haven't been around here long but some of the stuff people post just blow my mind.

I know it sounds like the OP got a raw deal but to vandalize a bunch of trailers because of it?
