I've got a relative with 2 old early 70's Hayes that he's working on. One of them is bagged to the point he's using it as a parts truck to restore the other. Those Hayes HD's are rare enough to begin with so its nice to see them coming back to life.

You are not alone!! I just found this
-
What's that part? Trying to picture what it is.
-
Is that part of the suspension? I see the pad.
-
That is a broken cross member that has the carrier bearing for the auxiliary transmission it has been sandwiched between to 1/4 in steel plates and bolted.
-
They did the other side too, 5 pounds of prevention I guess.
The point was there is no end to what we will find. -
Pulled the shutters, engine wiring, front shocks, and alcohol evaporator. Quite impressed with the condition of the rad core. Couldn't find a mark on it. New rad tanks and a good flush/cleaning and I think it'll be good to go.

That's what appeals to me about Freightliner Airliner. Only 4 bushings per axle to wear out and they are easy as cake to replace. Still tossing around the idea of air ride cab. I know its doable but its a ton of extra fabrication. Might just leave well enough alone.

Sounds like you have the right man for the frame job! My concerns about the Airliner is if the inner frame width is the same because you need for that shaker crossmember assy. to go with it. I know you can work that out if it is not it just makes it a less desirable conversion.
My Kodiac has a Laredo package. It looks like they added air suspension to the rear and left the front original.
I made a CH sleeper into a day cab and installed an after market air ride kit under the cab. If you search on line there my be on available for yours.
