the Volvo is a great truck in fact I'd venture to say it's better than most because the body is made out of steel.
If it's an older model, the aluminum brackets have a tendency to get corroded and lose their ground potential. Bob's CB shop sells a stainless steel bracket specifically for the Volvo that does not have the corrosion problem the factory brackets have. Before doing anything extravagant or spending lots of money I would focus on your antenna system before you even think about spending money on fancy stuff. Here's a bracket that would probably solve your problem
roughly 90% of your gain occurs within the first 2/3 of a transistors rated power dissipation, so by reducing output by a third you only lose 10% of gain but drastically increasing component life.
We can add up to 3db gain simply by adding a second element to the antenna system.
Gain is much more important than wattage.
(I suspect even Ridgeline would recognize this)
Keeping temperatures down inside a radio also helps us keep the gain figures up

I have a couple of things I check out in any CB shop:
1. Where is the work done? If it is done right out front where I can see the work being performed, I am most pleased. If it gets taken 'in the back' to get worked on where I cannot see the work, I am rather leery...
2. If the establishment is at or near a truck stop, and has a big "We Cater To Truckers" sign out front, I pull up in a sedan and walk the work in. What happens next is very telling. If you are waiting in line and the tech takes truckers first when they arrived later than you, that is a clue. It means they have figured out that the trucker is in more of a hurry than he has brains, and that they will likely never see that trucker again. "Sell 'em a big ticket item, charge 'em $89 for a super whack pack diode clip" and send 'em on their way.
These things in combination speak volumes about most 'repair' shops...darthanubis and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
