Illinois? Is that the only place you've heard me? I thought I was in every truckstop in America. Dang, I better get a better radio.

Always southern Illinois. Some other cat around there got CB that makes the noise like the giant ants from
    " Them."
Not sure what to watch out for there, naked driver or giant ant coming out of the corn field.

    Clyde07 Thanks this.

Quote - How about instead of spending millions of dollars on researching how to make trucks less comfortable, and more aerodynamic, so as to squeeze every drop of fuel, too maximize profits, for everyone except the driver, they research getting a real fridge in all company Freighty's so as to maximize the healthy life style for the driver. 20160518_161010.jpg

I know your thesis is going to the highly educated, about what God only knows, that's why I threw in a picture.

OK Ethos, I know you wanted just the ABCs here, but that really doesn't cut it. I'll let you cull it down however you want it.

    1. Was trucking in your top five of career choices?
    B. No, but it should have been. Seriously. I really wish I'd gotten into it as a young man, rather than all the diversified crap that I did.
    2. How important is hometime to you?
    B. In my top 3 There ARE other things. Respect, Pay, Decent Equipment, (not necessarily new, but well maintained.)
    3. What pay range do you feel an OTR trucker should make on average?
    B. 75,000 to 100,000
    4. Given a choice between a 150 dollar a week raise or an extra day off?
    B. Hometime
    5. (OTR truckers only) Are you actively looking to get off the road?
    A. Yes In fact, I did get off the road to go local.
    6. If yes, are you planning on leaving the industry?
    B. No, and I didn't until I retired.
I actually retired due to having several on the job injuries in my last year working. Figured it was time for this old fart to pack it in, before I killed myself...

The quote I like the best was from a very wise old driver, when I was still a green rookie. "Never waste time, but never get in a hurry!"

The first time it was A. The second time around it was C. Trucking was the only job that paid me what I made at Walmart and then some. I actually had a high paying position at Walmart at the time I was terminated. 6 months unemployed and barely making $8.50/hour working for temp agencies ( that's the only job growth in El Paso, temp workers and call centers). Trucking was a last ditch effort before I packed up and left.
    B. Munoz gets me home usually every 5-12 days so I really don't have to make it a priority, it is to them. So it's all good.
    B. That's where it SHOULD be when adjusted for inflation compared to 25+ years ago.
    A. I'm all about the Benjamins, baby!
    B. I'll be able to retire when I'm 265.

Rocks, 25(2)+2, Lepton1 and 2 others Thank this.
