The amount of chains are fine in my eyes. I wouldn't hook it that way myself but i doubt he'd get a ticket at the scale over it. A black iron coil doesnt need rubber between the coil and wood. In ontario they want a friction mat between the racks and the deck of the trailer. Not sure where he's at so??? That is landscaping wood so its definitely softwood. Again i wouldnt use it because of it crushing and the chains coming loose. I have an issue with people using non bevelled would but I see it all the time so they must not get ticketed for it. And these are tmc type companies that do it too. I would run 3 racks under a 47000 lbs coil but ive never been questioned at a scale about that either. I run 4 under a 70000 lb coil without issues or a second glance at the scale. I think a lot of people stsrt blurring the line between company policies and actual laws.

Wouldn't go down the road with that like that. Especially if that landscape timber is in the front. If I were the shipper I wouldn't let it out of the yard like that either. It would either be hardwood dunnage or go home on a coil that big.

Check this out. There is another one or two threads like that floating around or mixed up with something else.

I would use 7 - 3/8 chains, 3 back, 1 down, 3 forward, going around 2 pipe spools or under the rail to the flat bar under neath. Have seen many drivers roll with six chains and that would be the minimum, 4 is just crazy if you ask me. Not enough holding it back, really only 2 holding it backwards. Doesn't meet minimum standards much less mine. Rubber not needed,
