I recon this guy dented the truck. Knew he was going to get in trouble. Called up Gordon!! Got the orientation date. Returned the truck hoping they wouldn't recognize the yellow pole dents and cracked head lights. But this is just a fantasy, and I'm sure the op is a swell guy and I hope he has a long career at Gordon or First fleet. It's time for Crimson Tide tea. Oh Ya patty I have my Roll tide panties on as well. Good nighto_O Good night Benghazi:)

And what's wrong with job hopping? If you don't like what's going on you quit and start somewhere else (but sometimes you end up being worse off than before lol).I drove for 7 companies already and i am CDL holder for only 19 months.Funny that they always come up with those charges only AFTER you quit.

Kb has excellent equipment. Most the trucks are brand new APUs in all of them and I think fridges. So ya kb does provide comfort for the driver and expect the trucks to be in the same shape when turning them back in.I don't blame kb for charging the driver But they also keep it off your record.

It is the obligation of the driver to inspect the truck prior to getting in it for the first time. Anything that has been damaged should be repaired or noted on an inspection report. Any damage could be documented with a photo. If you accept a truck and it has been damaged, then you should expect to be blamed for any damage. If something was damaged while the truck was assigned to you and you failed to immediately report the damage to the carrier, then you will be expected to take responsibility for the damage. When you turn in a truck, it is a good idea to go through an inspection and make notes of any damage, including taking photo's of any damage. Most carriers will not say anything for normal wear and tear of equipment. It is expected that there will be normal wear. If there is evidence of abuse or damage due to driver negligence, then the driver should expect to be held accountable. It is up to the driver to keep his equipment checked and to report any damage or maintenance failures to the carrier ASAP. When I hear stories where the carrier has kept a drivers paycheck for no reason, I am usually skeptical.

Most of the better carriers won't hire drivers who have had more than 3 jobs in 2 years, some look for no more thn 2 jobs in the last 3 years. It costs a lot of money to qualify and check out drivers. Pre drug testing and holding orientation is costly. Another reason is stability. When a driver moves around too much it shows that they don't work to resolve any problems or issues and may not get along with others. Carriers look for stability and reliability. If a driver only hangs around for a couple of months, then it shows a lack of responsibility and problem solving skills. I once interviewed a driver who told me that he held about 20 jobs in a 24 month period. He had excuses, but the real problem was with that driver. If you want to earn the big bucks, then you find a way to show stability with your employers. Do your best and demonstrate that you are a good investment for the carrier by working out any differences with your dispatcher or driver manager or any other issues you may have with your carrier.

Everything you said is absolutely correct, in theory. The problem is that there are so many scumbag trucking companies whose business model is based on using and abusing drivers.

"Showing stability" and "working out problems" is industry code for shut up and eat whatever s--- sandwich the company serves up.

I personally am not a job hopper. However, I firmly believe in not being a doormat either.

Two very informative posts of yours.I'm not going to lie,my work history is bad.Not quite as long as the ops but none the less it's bad. You're right, its better companies will not hire you and can't blame them. They don't wanna hire somebody only to have then quit after a couple weeks. My problem is when I do apply I take physical and that's the last I hear from the company. For example I took a physical for a company out of Omaha but I failed the weight lifting part.I passed the standard dot physical with flying colors and was issued a two yr med card. But because I failed the companies physical I didn't get hired. Then First Fleet,i took physical which was a good two hrs passed that and then found out the job wasn't what was advertised on Craig's list.So I had to turn it down. Now I applied for another local job with a major carrier and hope I hear from them tomorrow.

I wouldn't feel too bad about failing their silly little agility test. Trucking companies that require an agility test have an overinflated image of themselves. I wouldn't work for a company that required a #### PT test as a condition of employment.

Had I known how hard it would be I would have never even taken the physical. But at least it wasn't my money wasted for transportation there.I used my then boyfriends car and he gave me gas money. It was a 200 mile round trip there and back.
