They nab a "S ton" of landscapers for that round here. Just heavy enough to be over 10k trailer weight.

I've never alternated binders but I'm sure the theory is the same as with straps. I have 8 on the drivers side and 7 on the passenger. This way I am pulling down on both sides. The hook side always seems just a little looser.

I do that with coils. 6 ratchet binders gets kind of crowded on one side. I just stagger 3 on each side.

I was told to do that if I ever got a Home Depot/lowes type load of small trailers. Use 2 or 3" portables on both sides to pull down evenly. Or straps/winches, the point was pull from both sides.

Just one more tool in the tool box.

    MJ1657 and Chewy352 Thank this.

    Thank you!

I've been asking anybody and their dog questions. I'll get out and help the guy in front of me load so I can work with someone to see how they do it. I'll hang around and help a guy tarp or roll his tarps just to chat, one thing I've learned is if you're polite and wiling to work most truckers will spare you some time. Some just like to chat and tell stories, some wanna revisit the glory days. It's all good!

Someone should snag 1-900-FLATBED or 1-900-TIEDOWN for us rookies to call for help :D

I honestly don't think that flatbed ding and "make it up as you go" are good partners. I guess I don't know how you would train someone for everything, but I am surprised at the lack of training. I will print off Chewys handbook and add it to the library.

Like we tell other flatbed drivers,

    1. You are not delivering some ones heart.
    2. Do not rush for any broker, I don't care who he thinks he is. It's your life your safety and your load.
    3. Drive like with your head on a swivel
    4. Don't part up front with other lazy door slammer, you need the exercise.
    5. NEVER stop a tarp if the wind grabs it LET GO OF IT.
    6. If you can't roll up your tarps safely or its to windy, do your best wad them up throw some straps and get to the backside of a Walmart,Lowe's, home depot, any large big box store.
You can lay the tarps out broom them off and roll them up without stress and strain. And use the building to block the weather or wind. Your flatbed they love you. No wait time
    7. Invest in boraxo and unscented baby wipes you will understand later.
    8. Remember your lite weight understand how to dip your tanks with a stick.

    9. NEVER trust a GPS unit. Grab your phone call get a person get information.

How do I get to your location
Anything special about your location (dirt road, low bridge, will GPS get me lost!
    Hours of shipping and receiving
Can I tarp/untarp on your site
If I arrive early can I park overnight on site

You will learn as you go along.

Mudguppy, Zeviander and Chewy352 Thank this.

You will always have trouble with a load with gaps like that. Always push together or pack it any gaps and the chains/straps will come loose. Daly Clay on YouTube who works for Maverick does lots of load securment video. He has done steel loads with gaps like that and he belly wraps each pack separately. The packs in the middle will slide in a accident

That is the way to do it.

I have to do that on some of the loads I haul out of my direct shipper. Keeps them from leaning to the side you are tightening down on. Don't be afraid to get out the portables and pull from both sides.
