Maybe she was just having a bad day. If overall you enjoy working there i dont think i would let this deter me from staying, just my 2 cents.

I just pass it off unless they just try to keep it going. If they start jumping on me and cursing me, I will put them in their place. Have to be easygoing in trucking. If not, youll be mad all the time.

Why are you even asking permission to hover over your rig in the shop? Just go over there and see to it.

Im not trying to be difficult but small stuff like cig lighter and windows you can almost fix it yourself or hand a TA wrencher a hours labor and let him get it.

Small family businesses are the worst. I should know I grew up in one. The drama.

I know in trucking when I was with a small family company, everything mattered. Oh the drama. But was all over anything that touched "My" truck. I would crawl under it seeing to it that the water temp sensor is in proper with the poor mechanic putting up with me like one would put up with a house cat getting in the way. It was how I learned. Otherwise I might have to do it myself 200 miles from home or shop.

Anyone who says shut up to your face does not deserve your continued investment of your labor, love and life in his or her concern. In fact, I know of one employer in Little Rock who threatened me directly for being too uppity and stubborn when I insisted in showing up at 6 am company time because HE showed up at 6 0 5 to unlock the ####### shop and get the entire ready mix operation up and running. The boy that replaced me in that particular tanker job was a young one who was going to find out in time why there was a turn over there.

When I got involved in a wheeled loader at another ready mix, all that drama went away, a scoop of rock, a bit of sand, a dab of grease in 10 places and splash some fuel and round again. All day. Fun, fun and fun. I can almost hop into a CAT wheeled loader no matter how big right now and get it going.

But Bosses who tell you to shut up or threaten you with a bit of hostility or anger do themselves a great damage in many ways other than money. Usually there is a tension that does not concern you until you walk into the back office during a argument among the owners.

So you drive for that tanker outfit northwest of Wichita, KS or at least they have the EXACT same thing going on there with respect to the dispatcher being the owners mother with an attitude. That's exactly how a tanker full of milk wound up parked in their driveway at 2:00am, she had her 3 strikes with me and I left it with a very eloquently penned letter as to why I was not going to continue to run my arse into the ground so she can make a paycheck and in turn talk to the drivers like they are beneath her.

^^^ agree. I work on my "own" truck in the owners' garage, and get paid EXTRA to do so, and that way I know everything is done, not just bubblegummed together. Sometimes, when we are horsing around, we'll be like "shut UP!" talking about some crazy road stories and such. Tone and context, totally.
    Best answer, imho.

Being the owners MOM at a small family company--Id really have to know tone and attitude also--before making a decision...if I told you 1/2 of the things that have been said to me over the years here--both in jest and anger--your head might explode--but both sides take it all in stride

I was thinking you dropped a scoop on some ejo's (pronounce that in Spanish to get the English sound) car, put sand in his gas tank and greased the door handles, steering wheel, shifter, etc. before I got done with the sentence!

You can tell I like revenge!

Your dispatcher was wrong. The correct terminology is "Shut Up Stupid."
