Lease purchase

I'm an owner operator and think every lease purchase through a carrier that I've heard about is a bad deal. And it has nothing to do with thinking you might take my loads.

The reason in my opinion that lp sucks is very simple. Going into business is about making more money than you would as an employee. I have yet to see a carrier lease purchase where you make as much as a good paying company driver position.

 

How are you ever going to find out what the average revenue is? No company is going to open their books for inspection. They might make verbal statements which are anecdotal, not factual. And would never be inadmissible in any court of law, what someone says is hearsay, can't hang anyone with that.

As for the suggestion to consult an attorney, generally a good idea when dealing with contracts, but your lawyer will be powerless trying to change anything in a lease purchase. The company simply will not allow any modifications to the contract. One man vs. a corporate entity truthfully has no bargaining power. Your lawyer might be very good, but that contract was written by 10 or more very good lawyers. Final word to the newbie, DON'T

 

no doubt. never considered that. just had been my experience that were O/O that pm'd me.

No secret ... the information is all available in the SEC filings of publicly traded companies.

 

You keep telling yourself that.

Also the ones that claim to be making it are either lying to safe face or are happy and making it on their $300 a week because they have nothing and no one in their life anyway. No bills, no car, no house, no wife/gf...and never will.
But hey they'll walk away with a beat up pos freightshaker to show for it...Maybe.

 

There are many people that lease successfully. There are many people that lease purchase successfully.

I just finished my 2nd lease with a specialized flatbed company. I turned the truck in and purchased my own truck cash.

If I didn't desire to be home everynight I would have signed another lease instead of buying.

 

I can show you more than a few post's on here from people who are making a lease work for them. And it's not $300.00 a week.
The difference between them, and the average L/P driver? IMHO, the successful ones treat it as a BUSINESS, which it is. They have good work ethic, aren't afraid of hard work, or staying out a few weeks if necessary, know the ins and outs of the company they work for.

 

Well, you should know that every one of those posts are by people who are lying.

 

I have yet to see a lp guy make more than a good company driver does. Many guys want to compare a lease purchase to the typical mega dry box carrier average wage. That has never been the bench mark for anything but those with little or no experience and or bad work history bad driving history, etc. The bench mark is the good gigs that any of us with a good work history and some experience can get. Ltl, pepsi, frito lay. Food service, Ups, etc etc.
