Yeah I saw that. I had high swrs this weekend trying different things with the antennas, and it rained. Without it going across the bench yet. Sounds like I may have blown a final or two? Shipping to be serviced tomorrow. With my backup radio, swrs are better than before after tuning this antenna down. 1:1.1. Needle doesn't move. This 959 is doing 20watts AM, 30 SSB. Nice radio but I didn't even get to put my 955 on the road. I think I'll set the swr protect to 2.1 when I get it back.
At this point though I'm looking to get my technical ticket because I want to do some real talking. The radio I'm looking at now is $900.00 new, Yaesu FT857d. I want to talk 20m, and everything I'm legal to talk on until I upgrade.lilillill Thanks this. -
Yaesu ft857 now that is a serious radio always wanted one!!!
Did you talk on that 955 enough to blew up that final?!? -
I talked over the weekend. I made contact 900 miles away ssb, talked local. But I not sure what happened. I didn't talk with high swrs. I just keyed then make adjustments. I'll know for sure when he inspects it. But he's guessing it the finals. That's more $$$. But as a trucker with no family, what else am I going to do with the cash?rabbiporkchop and Ougigoug Thank this.

Bottom line it sucks big time!!!
I wonder how long someone has to talk with a bad SWR before toasting a final.....i am anal about checking my SWR i do it often.
I wish i had the dough for the yaesu but I honestly don't have the knowledge to run that kind of rig.darthanubis Thanks this. -
It's a lot cheaper to master 4 Watts.
Once you get your antenna knowledge down it's a lot safer to upgrade to bigger and better thingsdarthanubis and Ougigoug Thank this. -
Well my radio showed up yesterday..Not happy at all..Somewhere in the shipping process it got bounced...The main shipping box was ok,radio box has a crinkle in one end and on the inside there is a hole where the variable power knob goes..the v power knob and volume/squ knobs turn together at some point in the change from low to high..There is a streak of orange just under the channel digits and some scratches on chrome trim...Been talkin to mark, sent videos and we both talked to shippin on our respective sides...
Dont know what i feel worse about, not gettin the radio to go play on the streets or how bad mark feels about it...Its been dropped or tossed cause indentations from the knobs are imprinted on the inside of the box..
Like i told mark,im not sweatin it,thats what insurance is for and its just gonna take a lil longer to get a FT radio..darthanubis Thanks this. -
Someone just recently changed the title of this thread from Mark Sherman to Mark S. Does anyone know why?
-
I just should have been more careful. Should have disconnected the power and antenna while making my adjustments, and keep the automatic swr protection on. It won't happen again. But when I go full Elmer, I won't have to worry about needing a tech to tune up my radio. Comes from the factory proper. If something wrong with the rig, it goes back to manufacturer. This will be my last "CB".rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Look like it has been open at border for inspection that's probably where the damages happen....darthanubis and rabbiporkchop Thank this.
