Hello all you asphalt warriors. I'm new to the forum and sort of new to trucking but sort of not. For the last 20 years I've operated heavy equipment, 16 of those I also hauled it. After many disappointments and watching several companies go under I decided for a career change. I have a classX now and am pulling tankers. I've only been in this now for a couple months but am thinking about going all in. I'm really considering buying my own truck somewhere in the next 5 years. What's thoughts on this 18th the way the industry is changing? Will I be able,to still make good money when the electronic log law goes in effect? If I do buy a truck chances are it won't be,new. Should I spend more money on a newer truck with lower miles or get a older one. Get it cheap then splurge for a driveline rebuild. As I said I'm pulling tank now but over the last 16 years I've pulled heavy equipment, lowboy, and rgn. As an owner operator what freight pays better but doesn't kill a truck. I know a constantly moving 45,000lbs isn't easy on a truck but a 60,000 lbs excavator prob isn't either. Thoughts and opinions appreciated here.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

So you think you can only make good money driving illegal, falsifying log books. There is no difference, you still have the same amount of hours on electronic logs. The electronic logs won't make an ounce of difference accept make the roads safer from Bubba Super Trucker running 20 hours straight. Of course Bubba will think he is a genious and find a way to still run 20 straight and kill someone.Last edited: Jun 3, 2016

Because shippers/receivers run out of product or space to take your product. If there's no room in there tanks what are you gonna do? You need responsible drivers that take their 10's but you also want to be flexible to deal with traffic and load times
fordconvert and rachi Thank this. -
