On a good day, if I got the right run, I could take home $400 in a day. Problem back then was that I was still a rookie driver (less than a year of experience), and they either worked me to death or starved me, depending on the week. That, and the nature of what we did. I ended up leaving after having a plastic pipe burst in my face while getting ready to open a valve on top of the trailer (pressure unload, industrial grade bleach). Long story short, after having a couple days off from injuries, I lasted another couple weeks before I decided I couldn't do it anymore. Too risky and nerve racking for me.

Q - with there being extra pay for tankers, flatbeds and refers compared to dry vans, is there any bonus pay for running tandems?
-
As in doubles/triples? Not for doubles, but for triples there's usually at least a couple cents more per mile added on.
-
Theres no bonus for doin reefers. You do washouts for free. N your watching a reefer engine all day. And you need to fuel it.Dave_in_AZ and JReding Thank this.

While I'm thinking if it, there's one more form if pay, I'm assuming not many places pay it, but I receive it working for a hospital system: nighttime differential. As a nighttime driver, I get an additional $1.75/hour on top of my base hourly rate.
4noReason Thanks this. -
