I work for JB Hunt on the family dollar account. Before anything gets twisted JB Hunt has been great to me. The pay is around $1000 to $1200 a week as promised, they treat me great. The job is very very physically hard but that is not a factor in my looking elsewhere.
I got a lead on a job running 2 trips a day from the city I live in to South Carolina and back. Home daily with pay being said it would be $900 to $1000 a week. All sounds good but the only thing that concerns me is that it is through a temp agency. A reputable one but a temp agency non the less. They said it isn't a temp assignment and that a contract to the run has been secured for many years plus after about 4 months I could go full time with the company if I desired. They do offer health insurance so question is should I trust a temp agency.
I had dealings with temp agencies before coming into trucking. This is a trucking specific temp agency though. Wanting to know if any of you have had experience with this kind of setup?
So thinking of jumping ship

Why would you take a pay cut with this other job and not only that the option to work full isn't guaranteed even with a temp agency
Md420 Thanks this. -
Home every day. Plus unloading 2600+ boxes per day in this summer heat is hard on me. And my only gripe on JB Hunt is the insurance is ridiculous and dont cover ####

My stint with a temp agency was well... ( I had just moved to the state and needed a job asap) they paid $5 less an hour than a direct hire would get. The company actually paid the temp agency $2 more an hour than a direct hire would get, guess they figure it is cheaper than insurance. So in the end they paid $7 more for temps, but all raises came from the temp agency, and if you made it long enough to max out it was still less than what a direct hire started at. So any insurance and workman's comp goes through the temp agency. In order for the company to hire a temp they had to buy out the temp agencies contract or what till it ended. So in only rare cases did a temp get hired on, normal case scenario was hire right off the street with no experience, while there where temps with several years experience on the floor. For instance a supervisor was a temp for 12 years before he got hired on. The temp agencies insurance was laughable so I kept my money.
Sadly, I stayed there for just over a year, got an interview, which consisted of three separate interviews. 1st with 1 person, 2nd with 7 ppl, 3rd with 2 people. (yeah what is this the fbi???) I made it through all three interviews. Never got hired, they said it was cause of the plant manager getting fired just after my interview (1st interview was plt. mgr.). All the same to me, I took it as a dead end and walked off the job. I will never do the temp trip again.
It is just a scam for employers to avoid liability. Notice the big jump in how many places use temp agencies after the mandatory health care.Md420 Thanks this. -
Well considering I would only leave $50 to $100 on the table a week to be home every day sounds appealing

There is nothing wrong with working for a temp agency. They serve a purpose and they can be useful in finding you a job that is not available to you otherwise. I have used temp agencies and had success. I found another job before my time ran out and took it. They are still good friends of mine and I use them for part time work.

Well I applied

If it sounds like this new gig would work for you then give it a shot. Leave on good terms with JB and they will take you back for sure.
The up side is that if you do come back to JB you have a little more leverage to either go on a different account or maybe get a bump in pay or sign on bonus.
