I want to become a commercial drivers but I have been having a few issues trying to do so. I have an Indiana class A permit and I am considering going to an Illinois school because I could not get a grant to go to school here. My operators license had been suspended in the past and I just got reinstated in 2014. I would like to know if anyone can tell me how long I would have to wait before I can drive a commercial vehicle in Indiana or Illinois being that my operators license was just reinstated 2 years ago.
Having a hard time getting started

Depends on the reason for the suspension. If its DUI, you're going to have a tough time finding a driving job.
Indy*2468 Thanks this. -
I have never had a DUI or an accident.I have talked to a few places who viewed my record and was told that I would have to wait a year or more before I could drive.
-
Then why was your license suspended?
Indy*2468 Thanks this. -
If you can't find someone that will hire you right out of school right now, I'd wait until everyone will hire you right out of school before going to school. You can go to school right now but it might be a waste of time.
Indy*2468 Thanks this. -
You don't state why it was suspended. However most companies probably won't hire you. Do you still have points related to the suspension on your record. You can go to school anywhere you want but your license is issued by the state you live in. Going to another state will not get rid of your suspension in the past. Wait another year or so.
Indy*2468 Thanks this. -
It was suspended because I had delayed paying tickets I had received for a couple of moving violations. After paying them off and attending the required courses I was told that I would not have any points against my license but if you were to pull my driving record it still shows up. My permit is going to expire soon so I want to get my license now.

Do you live in Indiana? That's where you need to get your license, where ever your home is.
IN, CA, UT, AZ, PA are the 5 toughest states. They are reciprocal with each other, you get your CDL in one of those states, you simply walk into any other state, and get your license.
If you go to Illinois, and get it, Indian is going to make you do the entire 3 part written, and all the driving, pre trip, and obstacle / backing to get your CDL.
That's why all the mega's for the most part have their schools in those 5 states.Germangirl and Indy*2468 Thank this. -
When did they start that?
