As stated on here somewhere before, I signed on with Central Dispatch back when they first stated, I used to give them big props, exchanged Xmas cards, and always wrote them a Thank You note at the end of every year for being a good partner and helping my business grow,,,,,,,,,,,,then they were bought out, how things have changed.

My biggest complaint is just how in the hell does DAS keep a presence on that board, them being listed as a broker and allowing them to list cars to move make CD's rating's system the biggest joke since George Carlin was alive, sorry to rant, what's fair is fair, and this crap just pisses me off.

No, they don't owe me a dime, I won't haul for them.

They made us split our account awhile back, one for listing, one for hauling.

Terry270 and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.

Remember CD is a load board. They don't vet the users much nor do they care to lose money by banning users.

    Terry270 Thanks this.

I don't know, I don't think I blame them for not banning users, however I do believe that negative ratings for non payment should be posted right away with no waiting period. Pretty d**n easy to prove you've paid a carrier, I can do it online in 30 seconds.

All of these people who are owed money, hate to say it but they deserve it. Then again I'm pretty picky, one negative in the past year is enough for me to tell them it's COD or nothing.

I recall only one COD I ever handled in my entire time on the road. Nogales AZ to Denver a Mexican Grocery Store south central past downtown in little mexico. The owner cut a check for 7500 dollars which must have included the freighting and hand delivered it to FFE dispatch in Denver off Commerce and I70 that day. I did not want to be around that kind of money in case something went bad. I know I got paid for the load out of that money in a couple days time.

With that story told... what do you O/Os expect in the way of trip payment? How long do you wait or are willing to wait for the paperwork and such to get through and a check cut to you and your truck?

About 10 years back I took a load from Massachusetts down to McAllen Tx. It was COD. Having never done work for this dealer I was pretty nervous about getting paid with a check for $7500. I called for directions, dealer says pull up in front of used tire store on the main drag and stay parked in the road. I get there and this guy that looked like Scarface comes out and told me not to unload, give me 30 minutes he says. Okay wtf is going on. In 10 minutes 50 or so guys are walking around the truck some even climbing on it. Scarface comes back out and proceeds to auction the cars off while they were still on the truck. Many of which did not run. As I unload each one he collected the cash from the buyers. I finished unloading and he disappeared inside the tire shop. I am pissed and scared ####less that I was gonna get stiffed. All of the crowd was gone and then here comes Scarface with a roll of $100's like I'd never seen. He said count it if you want but it's all there. No need, thanks, buh bye! When I left I drove probably a good 300 miles nonstop looking over my shoulder. Finally I stopped at a motel in what looked like a non 3rd world area of Texas, got a room and counted the money. $8100.
It was before Central started their ratings but I surely would have given a positive one for sure. I did a few more loads for the guy over the next few years, no problems. Then the ratings started and his weren't good at all. I'm guessing he wasn't a math major in school and some got the shaft while others got lucky.

Yeah, took a load to Hildalgo, unloaded in the flea market lot, right at the bridge, less than a 100 yards from the levee. 2 full loads from the Midwest. And when we're done, he starts counting the money on the hood of one of the cars. It overfilled a paper lunch sack.

I don't think we stopped until almost Houston!

When I was doing salvage it was normal to not only collect cash for the trucking but also cash for the auction. These were the days before Copart and APC (now IAA) required payment in full to release, they would trust us contractors and the company drivers to COD for them. To say the least, I used to be nervous heading into Alphabet City (lower Brooklyn), Corona (along the old Shea Stadium) or Hunts Point with $25-30k worth of cars on the truck, collect the cash then drive around the 5 boros all morning picking up the return load, which most of those towing and storage fees were also paid out in cash. It was normal to have $30k or more on me, alone in New York every day. So glad I was young, dumb, and ####y back then, plus at 5'11" and 200 pounds of muscle most guys didn't want to screw with me. Today I would be a headline news story! Keep in mind these were the days before cell phones and gps trackers, we had a pager and a 800 number to get ahold of the office if there were any problems.
