In Virginia, you can COBRA your health benefits up to 18 months. I don't know how it works in other states. I definitely wouldn't burn any bridges at work in the oft chance that you need to go back there, and if not there, to another place doing the same thing you were doing before. If you COBRA, you have to pay the premiums yourself and they are higher than what you were paying since the company is no longer offsetting some of the cost.

My hubby and I are lucky in that he is retired military, so our healthcare expenses are minimal compared to others.

My understanding is at SNI if you make it through, they hire you, but I could be wrong. Some SNI drivers may need to chime in. SNI LOVES teams, and from talking to other drivers, it is harder to get hired on solo there than team.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about the folks who aren't nice. This is life and in the real world, there are some not so nice people. Deal with them as little as possible. Remain nice, keep smiling and know you don't have to live with them!

    And lookit you NOW!
    Over a hundred posts!
    THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout.
I hope to read 1000 posts from you.
    YeS I do. :biggrin_25525:

    Here's a "pointer" for y'all ---
fret NOT about the length of your posts.
    NopE!

Those of us who are concerned and trying to help and assist y'all WILL read them irregardless of their length, --- and y'all should do the same.
I know there are a LOT of folks who notice the length of a longer post and shine it on as too much work just reading them. But, what they're missing could be of GREAT value. However, they'll never know, will they?

They're probably the same folks who don't bother reading the fine print in contracts they sign, and are disappointed when the fine print is enlarged ---- when it's too late.
Should we feel sorry for them?
    I think not.
    That's my opinion.
    Others might agree.
    Or not.

It's also my opinion that if one is too lazy to read,
they're probably too lazy to make it in the Big truck truckin' industry, too.

ok, I guess I'm just gettin warmed up on this puter so here goes. Last night talked to the recruiter and she said I could go solo on a tanker(imagine that, a woman drivin a tanker)still boggles my mind. Any way she said all I had to do was call her when I wanted to take pee test and we'd pick training date. They start a new class every Sat. I asked her if there were a lot of lady tanker drivers for their company and she said yes. Now not to belittle the recruiter ,but is this true. I'd like to know there will be other lady tanker drivers at the truck stops and things of that nature. Then when our medical kicks in at 90 days he (hubby) can breath easier with going for his orientation to eventually be put together as a team. Recruiter assured me switching us to team would be no problem, Is this true as well? Also is .32 a mile a good starting rate for a newbie on a tanker? She originally said .36 but then changed her info and said whoops wrong acct or co or something like that.
Also do tankers have to back into small places too? or do they usually back under those bridge lookin things for above hookup? She (recriuter) said I would be hauling paint and things like that ---no gas---. The more I read what you guys post, the calmer I am becoming, thats not to say that I still don't scare myself with thoughts like what if I'm in the right lane and my exit is on the left and I have to cross 4 lanes to get to it.WHAT?
Sometimes those signs come up pretty fast even when drivin a car. I'm probabl just scaring myself unnecessarily but those are my boogiemans that I'm worried about while being on the road. I love hearing from you guys Thanks a bunch.

One thing about driving a tank. The people you will deal with at shippers and recievers will treat you well. I have yet to run into someone with an attitude. I read that that isn't true with box and flat bed. I think you are wise to go solo and have your husband keep his job until you get the insurance going. 3 months isn't much time and you will multiply your experience by working with 2 trainers rather than teaming together sooner.

I have to say that was some good reading. It is good to hear someone with good ethics speaking out and giving good advice. A lot of what you had to say is true for just about any job you find yourself in and the results you get from that job are from the effort you put into you work.

I can say down the road I would love to be working the race circuit like you were, myself preferrably the NHRA, but any of them would be really cool!

I have noticed like in one of my long jobs that was in retail if you upset or didn't give a customer good service they will tell 10 people about it, on the other hand if you do give them good service they may tell 1 person. I think that is probably the same with some of the negative comments that I have read so many of.

The other thing that sticks in my mind is only believe half of what you hear, the trick is knowing which half to believe.

Enough said, I will look for more advice from you.

    Thanks,
