About a month ago I got my CDL from a local community college. I went to Schneider thinking I was good to go, was really excited, wanted to work there very much. Seemed like a real good and safe company with very professional people during the short time I was there.
When I get there I realize I didn't get enough time behind the wheel of a 10 speed. Our class had an automatic and a 10 speed, 1 trainer, with 8 students, and about a month long. Many days were spent just backing up or listening to recruiters. The road test was done in the automatic. I spent a total of about 2 hours behind the wheel of the 10 speed going around country roads. Wasn't taught how to downshift, bump and run, etc. I realized at Schneider that I'm way behind, try my best, study hard, show some improvement, but it wasn't fast enough, so I got sent home day 3. They said I could come back if I got 30,000 miles safe driving with another company.
What if any company should I go to so that I can get some experience and confidence driving a 10 speed that won't be an absolute garbage company to work for?
The only ones I can think of that will be willing to take me aren't known for being the best companies in the world. Right now I'm thinking about CRST.
I appreciate any advice.
Thanks
Got sent home from Schneider training, what company should I go to now?

I believe this is where Swift should come in. They are going to take you in like you do not have a CDL yet. Get some shifting experience and don't over think it. Shifting is done by SOUND. Listen to the music the engine makes.

Automatic trucks should be put out of service for eternity. It does no good to new drivers training them on automatic trannys

Averitt has a yard near Hunstville, Al. I think they call it Madison, Al. It's a good company, pretty well organized, with good benefits.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 24, 2016
